    Default A few simple lessons

    1. Don't steal.
    2. Don't run.
    3. Don't try to run over Police Officers.

While there have been cases where police have had really horrible shoots that was 100% not the person's fault (See the behavioral therapist who complied fully and was still shot by a cop) however this is not one of those cases.

The simple fact is he hadn't stolen a car he would not have been in the situation. If he hadn't attempted to flee, he would not have been in the situation. If he hadn't rammed a police car with his car nearly hitting said officer the cops likely would not have opened fire. The moral of the story isn't 'what do we do about police shooting at blacks' the moral of the story should be, 'hey don't steal, resist arrest and try to run over officers and you're chances of getting shot greatly diminish. Sadly... that won't be the lesson most criminals decide to take from this story.

    "
It appears that the shooting of Paul O’Neal was legally justified by all officers involved, but we find it likely that at least two of the officers violated Chicago PD policy. These officers had to make a choice if the threat to public safety was more important than the threat to their careers by violating policy, and they made the decision to protect the public and other officers."

I also wonder if this will get the Chicago community more upset than this:

Love the way they rationalize breaking department policy. But what if he was a terrorist!!!!! Cops are there to enforce the law, not to make their own.
Hope is the denial of reality

In the end a criminal who stole cars and tried to run over police officers is dead. I'm not shedding any tears over that. However I do agree that it was poor firing discipline. Its not the worry about hurting the criminal I'm concerned about but the shots could have hit a bystander or another officer. But you know what? Even with training people make mistakes when adrenaline is going. I can't say that after being nearly run over I'd be remember all the policies in place and making the most rational decisions. The point was mostly in regards to how this is another case where people will blame the police when the person who is mostly responsible is the violent criminal. And then juxtapose that with the actual number of people murdered by criminals on a monthly basis in Chicago you have to wonder about people's priorities.

These kind of mistakes have much higher chance of killing innocent bystanders than letting criminals flee and capturing them later. Sorry, but if you're willing to endanger innocent people whenever your adrenaline is pumping, you should get a job that doesn't entail the use of a firearm.

Don't worry, if any innocent bystanders get killed you can then charge the criminals not wearing uniforms with felony murder

True but I'm only in favor of punishing the people who deserve it. The criminal here deserves it however the bystander does not.
