How to make Brexit work

I was wondering how the hell Brexit might work. Because it seems all the experts find it impossible and the Brexiteers find it scary to actually do it it you look behind the bluster. I mean, what's with all the fear of invoking article 50.

And then I came up with the following, quick and clean way to go about it. In a way that's real, doesn't do horrible damage in unexpected places and even gives the UK to come back if it really wants.

What the UK could propose to the EU is that the government of the UK invokes article 50 and agrees to the following; the UK parliament keeps the EC1972 Law in place but amends it. The amendment is a conditional abrogation of the principle laid down in the Law. EU legislation will keep precedence in the UK, however, no longer is an obstacle for the UK to reject new legislation coming from Brussels or to the UK legislating in matters in a way that is not compatible with EU Law. As long as the EU rules, by QMV, that a rejection of new legislation or changes to existing legislation is not incompatible with EU basic principles (which those are are decided by the EU unilaterally) the UK will be allowed to function inside the EEA on the same basis as an EU member. It's citizens would be treated as if they are EU citizens, EU citizens are treated as if they are UK citizens in the UK.

This gives the UK the right to fully exercise its sovereignty without that automatically leading to the expulsion from the EEA. It makes it possible to continue pretty much as now, without the need to sever ties on the possibility that the UK may want to interfere with freedom of movement without the UK actually having any real interest in interfering at this moment. On the other hand it gives the EU to freedom to handle and develop as it desires without being stopped by the UK's dislike of moves towards a more federal structure.

It might even be a model for countries that are also not quite willing to commit to a real European system of government, but that don't want to entirely turn their backs on the EU for that.

And if it doesn't work, it gives at least a couple of years without major disruptions to negotiate a new relationship.
