Will you buy/reserve a Tesla?
Specifically the Model 3?
Unveiled today, simultaneously awesome and underwhelming. From what I understand, some of the tax breaks and subsidies will expire soonish, which might explain some of the rush to reserve one. Tesla makes my heart flutter but unfortunately from what I can tell they're not quite ready yet for the climate up here in the frozen north. Probably will be soon enough though

A rush like that, its going to be headaches for years. Which sucks cause it lands in the same time frame that I was looking to get a new car. So i'll stay on the fence between a Mazda RF or Fiat Spider and pick up a battery car next time around.

I don't think the tax credits are actually going away, at least not totally. Congress is going to change the rules before the government winds up subsidizing foreign electric vehicles, but not American ones.
The infrastructure's not there where I live, I just got a new car and I probably couldn't afford one anyway.
Maybe toward the end of the decade.

My car is six years old this year so it's warranty ends next year and so I'd like to get a new car then, but without a garage I fail to see how a Tesla would be practical so no.

When it comes to future tech, am awaiting hydrogen fuel-cell cars and the related infrastructure to become more mainstream. Better in most ways than battery cars, which I see as more of a tech stop-gap.
I intend to keep driving my '08 Toyota Yaris until replacement parts become scarce/unaffordable, or gas prices exceed the cost of electric battery charging/storage.
Which do you think will come first? I've probably driven several thousand miles before you answered that question.....
My "normal power outlets" are indoors, what am I supposed to do drive the car into the living room in order to charge it? Get a cable running out of the window to the kerb? That'd be a trip hazard for any pedestrians as well as rather unsightly and insecure.
You should be able to take out the battery, charge it indoors, then put it back in your car.

I was a little puzzled until I realized British parking technology probably hasn't had to develop to the point where parking spots have outlets. I expect it's because you guys don't have snow and stuff
Some interesting reactions to the weirdly sparse dashboard on the Model 3. Read some speculation about it somehow indicating that Model 3 may be self-driving at some point. Dunno if I buy the reasoning but still cool

Are exterior outlets a US only thing?
I would rather say, the UK is a bit special about power plugs. At least we have outdoor plugs here:

When my house was getting built an exterior power outlet (and an exterior tap for water) were both optional extras which we declined to go for. Though even if we had an outlet without a drive or garage I don't think it would be much use anyway. My parking space is in the back of a communal car park behind the property.

I was initially interested, then I looked at the range, the distribution of charging stations, and the charge time from normal domestic mains power. Haha. No.
Our trips to see family take us into areas with no charging stations and are at the edge of the cars range. It would take more than a day to recharge the car from regular mains power, and there aren't convenient plugs at our destinations in any case.
It looks really well designed and is probably great to drive, but the infrastructure isn't there to make it practical yet.
We will carry on using nice bikes for most journeys and an average family car (Focus, petrol, silver) when we need to go further.

No, because I believe electric cars are not good for the environment at this point.
You're too young to be such a tight wad! It doesn't cost much when building a house to opt for exterior power outlets, whether they're for electric lights or grills or power tools or whatever. Much better than extension cords.
