What Game Mods are you using?

Seems that nowadays user-created mods can be as important to a game as the base game itself. Are there any particular Mods for games you're playing or have played that you'd recommend or are interested in?

I've recently started playing the first one that has really impressed me. Sid Meier's Colonization was one of my favourite DOS-based games but Civ IV: Colonization didn't have the same magic. Game balance was off and it just wasn't as much "One More Turn"ish. Downloaded a mod called The Authentic Colonization that has really converted the base game into something special and much more fun.

I'm also in love with Crusader Kings II at the moment and there's a Game Of Thrones total conversion for that too. I've not downloaded that yet as its got some spoiler warnings on it so I've avoided it until I can catch up on both books and shows but from the reviews I've seen for that it seems to be really impressive.

Usually high res stuff since I've got a system that can push it. Icenhancer for example. Only other one I remember is Space Core for Skyrim that Valve made.

It really depends on the game; most of my stuff I usually end up downloading a mod for in the end. There was a couple for Civ IV I played, including C2C, FFH2, and so on.

I'll always get mods for the larger, more longer-term games that I play/have played.

World of Warcraft had a ton of mods I used; to help with crafting, auction house, general interface enhancements, buying/selling, enchanting etc etc etc. Had about a dozen going.

X3 too, which I played for years, had a lot of mods. The X3 universe was so large and complex, and your empire would have more going on than you could possibly keep track of, that mods were almost necessary. Egosoft, the developer, had a lot of interaction with the modding community, and would sometimes incorporate the better mods into patch releases.

Cities in Motion springs to mind, had lots of mods for that. They're only just starting with the mods for CiM2. Lots of user-created maps and scenarios there too which are shared through the modding community.

I use mods for WoW and some other RPGs like the Baldur's Gate, to increase replayability of some 4x games like Moo2, Civ, or the old Warlords series, and I think I've occasionally grabbed an AI mod for Paradox strategy titles.

I've got that one, it's really well made. You can play campaigns set before the books/show without spoilers, and one of the other campaigns kicks off at pretty much the end of the first season/first book, and I don't think it spoils much after that.

Also used a mod, forgot the name, for star wars knights of the old republic II, that restored a lot of the content that was removed before the game was released (apparently it was rushed), and adds a planet that was originally in the game but also got cut.

Off topic, but is CiM2 worth getting?

Yes, yes, and yes. It shows in astonishing detail how lacking games like Sim City are in this genre. Definitely worth the outlay.

The detail is remarkable. Gets a big TRY IT from me.

This mod has recently added the continent of Essos, expanding it a lot. So now it's possible to play as Daenarys, or as one of the republics of the Free Cities, or engage in slave trading (haven't tried that bit yet, but the modders made a whole new game element by implementing slavery).
