Venus Transit - June 5/6 2012
http://www.transitofvenus.org/
So, I'm sorta keen to try seeing this. Unfortunately my family telescope is in storage a few thousand miles away over in Real America. This means one of two options:
1) Buy the dinky glasses to look at the sun. I would have to buy $25 worth for 25 glasses, at least according to that site. And I guess find a bunch of friends to come with so that I'm not wallowing in a pile of cardboard glasses.
2) Construct a system to project the image through binoculars onto a screen. For some reason I have two high-powered pairs of binoculars, including an excellent 50-year old set of Zeiss binoculars with 8x magnification.
The problem is I would have to buy a tripod of some sort, then build-out something to hold the screen perpendicular to the binocular eyepieces so that I can properly aim/focus the binoculars on the sun without requiring four hands.

Anyone have a sense of whether either system will yield substantially better viewing? Anyone else excited?
