US senate budget 2010

Hi guys, I wonder if you know how much US Senate spends with their senators, Brazilian Senate budget spends around 1,5 Billion dollars each year to keep Senate working, reminding that Brazilian Senate has 81 senators. It is a spending overhealmingly above from the rational, and I would like to compare with our fellow americans. Tried to google, but i got only national budget.

ps: 1/3 of 1,5 billion budget is to paid for wage of retired employees.

It's a little complicated to separate out, since the numbers may be covering different things, but last budget for the entire legislative branch (House and Senate) came out to $5 billion, of which direct Senate costs was about $1 billion. These numbers might be including very different things than the Brazilian numbers, though.

wow 100 senators and a budget of 1 billion!

As you told is an estimation. Even this way i really thought that such costs would be far below from ours...

But as you told too, to make a more precise comparation these costs must be exploded. Just for information, brazilian senate has around 9K employees (for a total of 81 senators).

But the US is such a better country then Brazil..... there's like no comparison.
