Thread: vBulletin 4.1.5 - Test Subjects Needed

Default vBulletin 4.1.5 - Test Subjects Needed

Instead of just rolling out the new version of vBulletin, I want to test this and get forum sign-off first. To that end, would anyone like to volunteer to test out vBulletin 4.1.5 for me? Anyone who agrees will get access to a special site that I'll set up. I just you need to look it over, poke at it, make some spammy threads and replies, and let me know if you think it's alright to push out to the main site, or if it's not, what's blocking your approval.

    So. Volunteers?

I'll give you a percentage of the net profit off this site.

    I just wanted chocolate.

Too bad. I'm only offering a percentage of net profit of the site. Open offer, by the way. Anyone who wants can claim it. Even name your own percentage, as long as it's a positive number.

    (Y%) x (-$) = -$

I volunteer, but I've not proven to be great with feedback.

I can probably start giving it a whirl on Sunday, if that's soon enough. Maybe tomorrow, even, but I hope to spend Saturday sleeping, and I have a hard time doing any web surfing while unconscious.

Wraith et al, do you want me to post my findings here, or send you a PM?

In case it takes a while to be read, and before I forget....this new version doesn't allow me to start a reply, then scroll back in the thread history and continue adding to my reply. The whole thing is just "lost". Previous version had some nice little "memory" thing that would let me do that, without having to open a new window or tab. Not a big deal at all, just an FYI.

Either way is good - your choice.

I'm taking longer than I should to get this thing set up. Very sorry about that, but I've been really, really busy back in reality. On the plus side, it now means you'll all be getting to test 4.1.6 when I do get it set up. PMs with the test location will be dispatched as soon as that's done.

Finally getting around to this. Setup is running. It's all automated now, so as soon as it's done PMs will be going out with access information. Not too late to volunteer.

Did I volunteer to be a lab rat, or just demand chocolate?

    Yes, you did.

Had some trouble upgrading the existing test forum. Guess it's been too long since I maintained it for that to go smoothly. Going to have to wipe and install from scratch in the morning.

I sent you a PM just now, Wraith. Did you get it? It doesn't show as being sent under my CP, and I can't seem to create a new PM by typing in your name in the recipient box.

Should be a couple of Report Post comments, but the recipient field and BCC weren't working right. Only very slight shadow, barely noticeable. Comment field wasn't working either (not that I could see, so I was typing blindly).

This is now up. PMs have been sent out.

Currently, I've done the main conversion of the Classic Blue style, but I'll get to the others and finish things up over the next day or so.

Guessing images for eg. the UI and smilies won't work while it's in the secret sandbox?
"One day, we shall die. All the other days, we shall live."

  19. #19
No, they'll work. There's an issue with the editor icons that I'll get to later, but I just fixed the smilies thing. I just forgot to copy the images directory.

If nobody stops me, I'll upgrade this forum tomorrow.

  21. #21
Wraith, there are still kinks in the Report Post function. Clicking on the report post icon won't let me type in comments, or send the complaint.

Porting over all the fixes hasn't happened yet. If nobody stops me, I'll do it tomorrow.

  23. #23
Forum will be shut down briefly for this upgrade, at around 7:00 PST (about five hours from the time this post is being made). If you're around at that time, I suggest you copy all your posts to the clipboard before hitting submit, just in case. The usual downtime for these things is ~2 minutes, but it's possible there's something that will happen that will make it take longer.

Due to how long I dragged my feet on this upgrade, we'll be jumping up to 4.1.7.

Consider this the last call for the volunteer testers to stop the upgrade from happening.

Done. Thanks to the test participants.

    Congrats, everything's looking great

The in-place buttons after you clicked on "edit" do not work in Chrome. Pressing the submit/cancel-buttons does nothing. Furthermore, the background of the edit box begins white, becomes brown when you click on the text and becomes white again if you try to submit your edit. Basically, editing is unusable in Chrome at the moment.

Hmmm I'm using Chrome right now and am not seeing these issues in the default or the classic blue theme. Clear cache and try again? any weird extensions?

In chrome, the reply, reply with quote, multiqutoe and report buttons are all suddenly on the left!

Careful examination exposes the Dutcho-German lie campaign. Observe:

It's the Dark Vision theme which is broken, or so it seems.
