NYTimes Chrome App
Chrome users out there may have seen an ad on NYTimes.com advertising a Chrome App for the newspaper. I'm trying it out. It's not revolutionary, but an interesting use of Chrome to push the visual edge of a site a bit higher.
Anyone else looking at it? What do you think?

If hindsight is 20-20, why is it so often ignored?
I wish the robots at Google paid me to convert people to Chrome...I've gotten at least four or so. And now I'm seeing an ad for Internet Explorer on the top of this thread.
Another reason to hate the apple mindset/ecosystem. Everything is a fucking app now, even when its just a website that only works in one browser (which used to be a bad thing).
Didn't get any download requests in IE8, but it did give a error caution.
Wanna pimp chrome, mention that the latest beta is so fast, it loads webpages before you press the go/enter key

Site appears to work fine in IE8. Only difference I see is that articles fade into view, while in Chrome they page turn. Almost like reading the news via powerpoint.

You're right, this is stupid. If they want to have an alternate version of their site, just make an alternate layout. Seems like they can do it easily enough with their CMS system.
I also really hate the whole app craze. My friends complain about their phone's battery life, when if they just used the browser to access their e-mail, weather, news, etc. they would save a ton of power and probably time.
