Thread: Stress digs an early grave.

Default Stress digs an early grave.

I find that for myself, riding my bike, hiking, and cursing inanimate objects are the best stress relievers. Kind of follows what this article says, Everything you know about beating stress is wrong .

What about you, what are your favorite ways of beating stress?

    I play violent video-games.
Good way to let out aggression.

I kill people in video games. And if that video game starts stressing me, I'm come at it until I beat it, and then I'll kill lots of extra people in it. I've developed a fondness for drowning people in AC2.

Can't have a stress thread without Seinfeld

Mine is beating a platoon of soldiers with a broom. It really puts things in perspective. They are armed with knives, swords, axes, and pikes, likely forged by the best blacksmiths in all of Renaissance Italy. I have a broom, made of a long stick, with straw bound in twine on one end, constructed by a peasant.

Either that or Dead Rising 2, where its the mass slaughter of the undead, using anything from a tennis racket to a pair of fire-axes duct-taped to a sledgehammer...

Cussing at stupid drivers and traffic. Singing really loud in the car. Yelling at the TV. Snuggling and napping with my cats. Chocolate. Rum.

Eating, drinking, pretending to be merry ... until the other two make it so. If those are not available, I yell, throw stuff, act generally immature and obnoxious until I fee utterly ridiculous and start laughing at myself.

Outside of an orgasm, I know of scant few things which are as satisfying as killing everyone in the slaver compound in Den in Fallout 2 with a character whose level is below 3.
In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

I curse inanimate objects. I cuss at stupid drivers. I talk to myself. In general, I act like an ass! But, I have noticed my stress level is lots lower than Mommymunchkin's. She is forever telling me to quit swearing at the chair in the way or whatever. Now I have proof it's a good thing!
I don't have a problem with authority....I just don't like being told what to do!Remember, the toes you step on today may be attached to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow!RIP Fluffy! 01-07-09 I'm so sorry Fluffster! I think conditioning yourself not to get worked-up about things is probably a healthier approach.

I can, usually, convince myself that worrying about things isn't going to change the outcome, so I shouldn't waste the time and energy working myself up over them. It works, most of the time. Kind of like that hospital bill, it's already run up that high, is going to go a bit higher with all the follow up visits, and there isn't one damned thing I can do about it...so why worry about it. All that will do is stress me out and raise my blood pressure!

*dammit, we need a "serene" smilie!

People who don't/can't get worked-up about something from time to time, are either emotionally retarded or living in la la land.

There's nothing like good hard work to relieve stress. There is something really appealing about both pumping iron or creating trails with machetes, hatchets, hedge trimmers, etc. I'm actually working on a secret alcove at the place we usually go mudding and I'm clearing away the canaopy so we can have a fire in there

I agree 100% and it fits with the doing something you like thing. It's not that I like digging holes and shoveling gravel to fix sprinklers or the driveway, it's that I like the physical exertion required to do it.

I'm really drunk and I feel very unstressed, so I guess that works!

If I'm driving alone I'll have full blown arguments in the car when I'm stressed.

According to the catharsis theory, that is false.
