Southern Sudan
The nation with more of the Nile river in it than any other nation is also in the news today. No, not Egypt but that fact currently belongs to Sudan. In the referendum 99.57% of Southern Sudanese have voted to go independent. Darfur is not part of Southern Sudan unfortunately; I wonder whether in the future a split of Northern Darfur -> Sudan (what remains) and Southern Darfur -> Southern Sudan will happen.
What are they going to call the new state?

So far the only name I've ever heard them use is simply "Southern Sudan", don't know if they will change it.
I don't know what Northern Sudan is going to do after the split. Southern Sudan has almost all of Sudan's oil, but the North has taken all the wealth, the South is one of the poorest areas in the world. Without oil revenue, the North is not going to have a good time at all. Perhaps they shouldn't have oppressed the South so much.
All the oil pipelines go through the north (and the north has something like a quarter of the oil). They're not in as dire a situation as you think. Also, as far as I know, all of the major groups in Darfur are Muslim, and the southern part of the region would have no reason to joint a Christian/Animist South Sudan...

Not too many northerners in the south. Not sure if the North is going to force southerners to leave the capital (they do most of the menial labor there), pass laws that will strongly encourage them to leave (i.e. enforce Shari'a against non-Muslims), or will allow the status quo to persist.
