Thread: Refreshing Site

  1. #1

    Default Refreshing Site

Whenever I refresh the time, i seem to be taken to the home page rather than remaining wherever I previously was. Is there any way to change that? Albeit it is a minor inconvenience, it is mildly irritating to click a minimum of three times, assuming you did not miss the hyperlinks, to return where you once were.

Are you using the .net address? Switch to using the .com address.

J'accuse, Wraith! You going to pm me?

We lost it for a while, then we got it back. I can't say exactly how we got it back, as anything I tell you would make you an accomplice after the fact.

Sorta related....how come I can log off, manually clear cache and cookies, and shut down my computer.....but when my kids turn the thing on and pull up Safari, it shows I am on-line in this forum?

Actually...I'm not sure. If you're around, could you help me by trying an experiment to see if it's something here or on your computer? Basically, you'd just need to post here and log off. I'll post a few seconds after any then you can log in again.

If you don't see this post for five minutes or more after I make it, don't bother with this though. I won't be around to see it.

ok, I am around. Just now, before this post, it all became verrryyy slow.

Logging off, clearing stuff, shutting down. 7:26 pm EST

Awesome. See it. Safe to log back in now.

Okay, so you were showing as logged off and not showing in the online list. My guess is that it is a cached page. Next time it happens, try refreshing the page to see if it still shows you as logged in. Whatever the problem is, it doesn't look like it's on the server's side.

Back. Initially the blue screen was there, showing I was still logged on? When I clicked the page, it was white and I wasn't logged in.

I don't know what's going on, is it my computer settings or something? All I know is......I'll randomly walk by the computer when my kids are using it, and this forum page shows blue, with me signed in. Even though I've logged off a couple of days ago! Am I doing something wrong?

But I clear cache, routinely.....gosh I'm so confused. Sorry to be an idiot.

It's probably a cache somewhere. I'm not really familiar with Safari, so I can't be much help on that end. But the cache is absolutely nothing to be worried about.

I have no idea what's going on, but my kid helped me take a screen shot. This is what it looks like when I'm logged off TWF.

    Help?

Like I said, I'm not familiar with Safari, so this is only a guess, but this looks like a gallery of most used webpages or similar, and I'd bet that it populates that gallery with straight images collected at some point, rather than what's in your cache. No idea what to do if you want to make sure every image is always 'live' if my guess is accurate, but it shouldn't cause any actual problem for you. It's completely harmless, and you can safely ignore it.

I think Dread uses Safari, so he might be able to help more.

Nein, I'm not a Safari user. But I sometimes think there is just a lag between when people log off and when they appear as offline. I used to notice it sometimes at Atari. Or GGT, maybe you're still signed-in at the .net location?

Separately, interesting list of regularly-visited sites there.

Oh, I didn't think to check if it was .com or .net!

It's Safari's version of the Opera speed dial, except fueled by Apple's unrelenting hatred of the common right angle.
The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun
