The second salvo from Elon. The first was the RTO mandate
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"

Difficult to convey just how extraordinarily destructive this is. Even if it's reversed "soon", the damage will take a long time to repair - and there will be a body count.

Don't forget firing everyone remotely related to DEI and then encouraging workers to rat out anyone working in DEI "secretly".

Tens of thousands of people with HIV will risk going without meds for up to 6 months, endangering not only their lives and their partners' but also future generations.

    Nothing particularly unexpected about this.

Also, try stopping yourselves from reacting to all of their talking points like excited puppies.
    Congratulations America

Researchers already at risk of not making rent. Funding freezes/delays beyond a few weeks greatly increase likelihood of postdocs and trainees of various kinds leaving regular-sized teams/labs - and, quite often, the country. Lotta important projects have already been derailed in just a few days.

I agree with you on most things here, but I think the slur "unserious country" is somewhere between comical and naive. When a great nation turns inward and destroys its own vital institutions, in is anything but unserious.

Priceless repositories of scientific data have been scrubbed from govt websites. Yesterday, I learned that a postdoc who was set to go to Stanford for an interesting project suddenly had no way of knowing whether or not he could move forward with that plan. Across the US, scientists are seeing their work being derailed - in many cases, irreversably so. Making rent has become a more pressing concern for quite a few of them.

Meanwhile, the groyper in chief has gained full control over the Treasury's payment systems. Apart from all the other concerns about corruption and other crimes, this level of infiltration is an obv. massive security risk - whether due to the incompetence of the people involved, or due to their affiliations.

Everything about this is illegal as well as extremely dangerous - for both the US as well as for individual Americans and businesses - but at least it'll make every corrupt hostile govt. out there very happy

Fascinating to see just how aggressively the new admin is fighting to support cancer, deadly infectious diseases, natural and man-made disasters, terrorists, international fraud rings, existential threat actors, etc. The damage being done to absolutely critical systems is so severe and widespread that it'll likely never be fully undone. What's particularly fascinating is that none of the reporting - from well-established, highly regarded news outlets - is reaching ordinary people, because it's such a stupid and utterly ridiculous country at every stratum of society. Loki, you should get yourself a plan B.

Trump administration wants to un-fire nuclear safety workers but can’t figure out how to reach them

The workers, whose agency oversees the nation’s nuclear stockpile, had been fired on Thursday and lost access to their federal government email accounts.

WASHINGTON — National Nuclear Security Administration officials on Friday attempted to notify some employees who had been let go the day before that they are now due to be reinstated — but they struggled to find them because they didn’t have their new contact information.

In an email sent to employees at NNSA and obtained by NBC News, officials wrote, “The termination letters for some NNSA probationary employees are being rescinded, but we do not have a good way to get in touch with those personnel.”

The individuals the letter refers to had been fired on Thursday and lost access to their federal government email accounts. NNSA, which is within the Department of Energy and oversees the nation’s nuclear stockpile, cannot reach these employees directly and is now asking recipients of the email, “Please work with your supervisors to send this information (once you get it) to people’s personal contact emails.”

    [...]

The NNSA is tasked with designing, building and overseeing the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile.

The termination notices, which read “effective today,” came within hours of a Russian drone striking the Chernobyl power plant in Ukraine. NNSA tracks nuclear risks in Ukraine, including through sensor systems.

Important to note that the "probationary" employees in question are, in many cases, highly knowledgable and experienced FAA staff - their probationary status applies to current roles that may be temporary or simply represent the first stage in a highly qualified position. The agency has lost countless hours' worth of irreplaceable institutional knowledge overnight. I guess Lewk isn't planning on getting on a plane anytime soon \_(ツ)_/

There is a silver lining to every cloud.

Elon Musk’s mass government cuts could make private companies millions Defense and tech firms – including Musk’s own – await potential contracts as Doge decimates US agencies

And mayybe, just maaaybe, these dumb-dumb decisions could bring the US to its knees where it is no longer in a position to fund the ZioNazi state. Who am I kidding. That would be the last thing that any POTUS would allow. Just imagine how irritated and triggered all the AIPAC handlers would get at even the suggestion of defunding ZioNazism.
Oh come on with the "genocide" rhetoric.
