When I was in Shanghai in Feb, everyone was going on about "the expo". Someone actually asked me, "Did you hear about the sequel we are having to your world's fair?"

I imagine they were referring to the 1964 fair or something. At first I thought maybe I had just missed something, but the reality is that almost no one outside of China had heard of this "grand exposition" to showcase China's glory. A lot of the fair gave folks a reason to impose further development projects and provide a rally-point for development/pork in Shanghai.

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
