We know—from investigative reporting, from lawyers, from court proceedings, from hearings and from official briefings—that it was implemented, and we're learning about worse things every day. The solution to the border crisis is to stop allowing people to abuse asylum claims, or at the very least make a very swift conclusion to their case. It shouldn't take a judge more than an hour or so to examine the evidence. If you don't have evidence, bye you get sent right back over. One judge could deport a hundred in a single day easy, that would fix the humanitarian crisis on the border.

Of course Democrats don't want that, they want more children dying so they can try to win an election. They had to practically be forced to providing emergency aid relief which included medicine, housing, supplies needed to house people.

Many/most of those currently seeking asylum have legitimate claims to asylum on the basis of fleeing generalized violence that especially targets women and children. They are entitled, under international law, to seek asylum, and they are entitled, under both domestic and international law, to due process. You cannot safeguard an asylum seeker's due process rights if you have a judge assessing a couple of hundred cases a day where the applicants do not have access to legal counsel, an interpreter, or—and this is just so deeply shameful—their legal guardians. Ramon Torres had been a U.S. citizen for nearly ten years when he was detained for four days on an immigration hold – despite having a U.S. passport, a Louisiana driver’s license, and a Social Security card, and despite that fact that a court ordered his release.

Torres’ ordeal began in August 2018, when he was pulled over and arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Torres, a naturalized U.S. citizen since 2009, was carrying multiple forms of identification, including his driver’s license and other security credentials. Torres was booked at the Ascension Parish Jail, and the next day the Parish Court ordered his release.

But Torres wasn’t released. Instead, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office placed an “immigration hold” on Torres on the suspicion that he was unlawfully present in the United States.

The basis for this suspicion? He had a Latinx name and brown skin. Staff at the sheriff’s office explained that they had a policy of detaining all Latinx people for immigration review.

The reprehensible violation of this man's rights was a result of active choices made by people who must be held to account. They should be on the hook financially. They should lose their jobs. They shouldn't be dehumanized, but they should also not be employed as cops.
