Thread: Can American conservatism survive intact & unadulterated?

    American conservatives are deranged:

These people are so fucking dumb:

I can believe Pompeo got drunk and picked fights near the border with East Germany.

Stop the Presses! The GOP has found a backbone and the line in the sand to the Madness of King Donald. Full thread of actual backbone for once:

Note how they're talking about having the election completed on the 3rd. So you can bet most are still going to be on board with just throwing out absentee ballots.
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"

No backbone. Legislators with backbone would've condemned his attempt to delegitimize the upcoming election, and the baseless attack on postal voting. Instead, McConnell has kept Trump's strategy in play. In that interview, he closes by saying, "We'll cope with whatever the situation is." Coping is not gonna entail enabling more people to vote by mail.

While trying to convince people that ALL mail-in-ballots are ripe for fraud. It's part of their strategy to suppress voting.

Another flawed Trumpista GOP 'conservative' strategy is aimed at protecting "The Suburban Lifestyle Dream". No more dog whistles -- it's like a foghorn.

Jerry Falwell, Jr. has been forced to step down from Liberty University (for inappropriate pictures posted on Instagram). "The Moral Majority" is a farce.

And since Trump has declared Biden a God-hater, his white Evangelical Christian supporters have a choice to make.

Looks like American conservatism is alive and well:

This is worse than the Willie Horton ad. These people are shitheads.

Those reader comments were interesting, too. Here's another NYT op-ed about "conservatism": https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/07/o...sultPosition=3. (Read those comments, too.)

Most actual Republican politicians rejected all of this. They stuck, mostly through dumb inertia, to an anti-government zombie Reaganism long after Reagan was dead and even though the nation’s problems were utterly different from what they were when he was alive. Year after year, G.O.P. politicians clung to a dead paradigm, ran the same anti-Washington campaigns and had no positive governing philosophy once they got there.

Steve Bannon’s leap finally did what none of us could do. Donald Trump and Bannon took a low-rent strand of conservatism — class-based ethnic nationalism — that had always been locked away in the basement of the American right, and overturned the Reagan paradigm.

Not your usual insanity but a GOP Senator suggests her supporters skip a meal and give the money to her campaign instead . . .

You and Lowery have a hard time reading between the lines. The Party agenda is there. Quietly kill off poor people and make rich people richer.

They're too dumb to govern. The party is not interested in and has no skill with governance. That doesn't mean they can't further their agenda by other means.

No not almost all of them statistically speaking. And Twitter is full of Tw@ts at the best of times.

I wonder what it is about the draft-dodging Commander In Chief who calls dead veterans suckers and losers, prioritises his own hair over a cemetary visit, insults POWs for being captured and turns a blind eye to Putin putting bounties on the lives of US soldiers that has led the military to support Biden?

The answer to this thread's question is yes. Yes, American conservativism can survive and it can do so by voting Democrat. Increasing number of Republicans saying this now.

Is that like using Socialism to save Capitalism? Sorry, but American conservatism lost its way decades ago, and won't find its way back just by voting for Democrats. Republicans gave up on 'principles' and ruined their own party when they nominated Trump in 2016.

edit: even earlier, when Palin was the (R) VP candidate, and before that with Bush or Cheney.

They (Republicans) can't continue to support the Trump agenda in public, but secretly vote for Biden....as a way to save "conservatism".
