You aren't eased into facing new and tough enemies. Right from the very first mission you get psi sectoids who can mind-control. Whereas in Enemy Unknown you didn't get these until the final stages.

The countdown clock on missions which have a time limit is tight. I usually get my evac completed on either the penultimate or the very last turn.

I find myself having to save on most turns, and reload frequently.

I started a completely new campaign to put into effect what I'd learned after running into trouble in my first campain. I found it necessary to build the Troop training GDS room as soon as possible, and increase squad size. Makes a considerable difference having >4 troops on missions.
You need to go man mode like Wraith.
