Haven't logged in a hot minute.
Recently just got a job that doubled my salary. Amazing opportunity. I hate it.
Now I have to decide, and fast, if I'm going to stay and try and bear it as long as possible, or get out now and attempt to find something comparable that lets me live in my newly leased apartment. My boss and coworkers are already asking questions.
I just lost my job in a downsizing of the company. While I understand the reasons, it still sucks to get fired in spite of doing your job well.
On the bright side I'm way more employable than I was when I started (from what I can tell particularly quality experience is sought after), and this might be a good moment to mice closer to my girlfriend, and to think about where I want to go in my career.

If you want to move to Boston, we're setting up a cleanroom and manufacturing line for a medical device with very unusual specifications and methods... we can probably use a quality person.
Sorry to hear about the job, that's really tough. But I can tell you that in this field you're eminently employable, especially with experience. You'll get snatched up in no time.

Well, I was thinking more of Germany than Boston but never say never I do actually have experience with cleanroom (both working and validation etc) and with transferring processes from r&d to production, so if you're serious we can always talk

I don't know if our timelines would work with yours (or, for that matter, if we could get a visa in a reasonable amount of time), but we do probably need someone with your skillset. As do about a hundred other companies in the Boston area. If you are actually interested in moving to the Commonwealth, send me a PM. It's almost certainly the best place in the world to do biotech or cutting-edge medical device work. And I am of the general opinion that all of the smart and capable people in the world should move to the US and make all of us rich.

Hurricane Michael damaged my son's Job Corp location pretty severely. So that was a 10 hour drive to retrieve him and get back home. No ETA on when he can return and finish up his course plan.

Oof :/ sorry to hear this, hope she and you guys are doing all right.

Glad to hear everything turned out (more or less) ok.

Glad she's fine, under the circumstances. I hope she (and the other kids) aren't too shaken from the crash.

A typical weekend in America. *sigh*

Well, the restaurant closed abruptly. There was a brief and strange skirmish with the local Police and Sheriff when staff showed up at the owner's request, but he was AWOL. They were 'escorted' into the kitchen to retrieve their personal property, but couldn't get paychecks for 2 weeks labor. Local TV news followed the story...and did a consumer report about what bankruptcy means to employees and consumers.
Many people had scheduled special events last year, and paid large deposits in advance. One couple posted on Facebook about their upcoming wedding reception, and losing their $10,000 deposit...but not getting any answers from phone calls or emails. It's all just so damn sad.
Florida follows something called No Fault. Your own insurance covers expenses regardless of fault, and its then up to them to recover losses. This was a vehicle related accident so the vehicle insurance of the household takes effect.
Its an absolute pain in the ass that everyone hates.

And why is this not covered by the school bus insurance? I would get it if that insurance covers this and then claims bank from the responsible party. I just don't get why your car insurance is in there as your car is not related to this crash in any way.

We were given paperwork from the school, the bus insurance kicks in to cover anything that our insurance doesn't cover (unclear concerning deductible). Paperwork stresses that and even requires our insurance information so they can verify. No idea how it would go down if we didn't have a car, don't know if the offending driver's uninsured motorist kicks in, or the bus insurance kicks in first.
like I said, the No Fault concept sucks balls.

A couple of weeks ago for the first time in decades I decided to use a wallet. Yesterday I lost the damn thing. In stead of losing a card in one fine swoop I got rid of my driver's license, my ID, my main credit card and debit card. I think the wallet experiment has come to an end.
Congratulations America
As far as I can tell, there is no way to keep Facebook from bombarding your news feed with fundraisers.

We descended into hell
Into kingdom come
Well, yes, but the ancestors need pictures of their newest descendants.

So my employer (the restaurant) declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They owed me wages before the official filing. Now I'm getting all sorts of documents in the mail, with legalese and fine print that's really confusing.
