Working a night shift, and the security guard just dropped by to inform me that there is apparently a low-level fire indicator (not enough to set off a full alarm) went off, but he doesn't know where exactly, except that it's in this building, on this floor...

But you ditched your cigarette before he got there, right?

Heh, left that outside. The alarm supposedly went off in a bunker I don't even have access to.

My dad used to use Sam's Club too. I believe they only do tires, so you don't have to worry about them dicking around with the rest of your car and trying to upsell anything. Problem is that I don't have a membership (even though I live, literally, across the street from one). They priced me at $480 for 60,000 mile tires, plus $40 for a membership. The membership would likely pay for itself with the 3 birthday parties, christmas hosting, and wedding, but still. Car puts out less than 200hp, so I've been trying to find tires for under $100 a pop.

Think I found a place, TiresPlus, priced me at $371 out the door, but I have never heard of the tire name. Gonna have to dig deeper and see what its mileage is rated at, and how often they are going to want a rotation. Tires I have now lasted 35,000 miles, but I only needed to rotate them every 7500 miles, which lined up perfectly with my oil changes.

bah, more research and calling around. All I want is some new rubber!

It is hard finding tires for a good price that aren't crap.

You may want to look into Sam's Club/Costco eventually; before K came along we used to have alot of parties and it really paid off buying burgers, beer, and chips often. Now with her around it still pays off for our paper goods and meat prices, and diapers. I just like not having to buy toilet paper more than once every two-three months. Sometimes items aren't necessarily cheaper than other places, but I like the convenience of buying certain items quarterly instead of every trip. If we ever invest in a stand-alone deep freezer then I'll really be set! One of the downsides to them, though, is that they rotate brands sometimes, so that can be a little irritating (like yesterday, when I went to buy Kraft mac n cheese boxes and they swapped them out for Velveeta, which I like but contain less boxes in the shrink-wrap).
If you don't have much space to keep the bulk items around, though, it may not be a good thing for you. I have to be careful not to buy too much because my fridge is only so big, LOL.

Dude, rubbers are not the place to go cheap to save a few cents. It just ends up costing you hundreds of thousands in the long run when the cheap rubbers result in having an unexpected person come into being.

No cat-flap so it can come and go as it pleases?

  12. #2862
I wonder how many female cats in your area are going to have a litter within a few months.

He was snipped probably 10+ years ago. And no cat-flap...unless you can figure out how to install one in a sliding glass door.

Glass cutter? Any decent burglar's toolset has one.

If you can't locate a glass cutter, just smash a hole slightly larger than your cat in the door with a hammer or a boot or whatever, and duct tape a piece of carpet up to cover the hole. The jagged glass edges even provide additional security that traditional pet doors don't, in that small-framed burglars won't risk getting sliced up by trying to enter through your hand-crafted cat flap, as they'd be free to do with a more traditional pet door that has smooth, finished surfaces... And extra security even adds value to your house when it comes time to sell, keep in mind.

Perfectly functional cat flap in your glass door, and a quick way to increase your house's market value, for the price of some duct tape and a scrap of carpet.

You just gotta be willing to think, man. Dynamite solutions like that are everywhere, for anyone willing to turn on their brain and get a little creative!

Its been raining nonstop around here for more than a week. Heavy stuff, not our typical midday misting. Roads are flooding, more than usual, and of course the rain brings out the dumbest of the dumb when it comes to drivers.

Anyway. Work showed up on the front page of the free paper.

The first floor, children's collection, (the window in the picture) has flooded twice in the past week.

How do you flood a first floor?

Did he who made the lamb make thee?

This question makes no sense to me. You flood it by having water up to your ankles outside.

In Germany is the 'first floor' is actually the second floor, and the first floor is called the 'lobby' or something?

  20. #2870
First floors over here are ground level. Florida usually can't do basements because the water table to so close to the surface. What you see in that picture (the black bars) is the rear of the basement, our parking garage. The front of the basement is underground, which is a whole other problem. Front of the building that you can't see in this picture is where the water is coming into the building, flooding the first floor before flooding the basement.

That green crosswalk in the picture, that dumps people at the first floor. Thats how dug out the back of the building is.

Yes, we call it the "ground floor".

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

And the 3rd would be the salad, then?

Well, i have a place to work again for the time being and it sucks. It is too far away to walk to, I have to share a room with 12 people, some of whom are certified nutcases. And this all I have to suffer for up to a month as the entire tower that I usually work at has been shut down untill they have gotten the water out of the electrical system. I miss my own door. From what I have heard my floor will be entirely dismantled and refurbished.

FYI the floor that was flooded was the 8th floor. That would be the 9th floor for Merkins.
