The leaders have made sure to secure their wealth by disentangling it from the UK's future. The WTO business isn't even anything extraordinary--it is how the WTO always does things.

No, it will be the EU's fault because we didn't roll over and give them what they wanted.

Well of course. We have a disastrous Remainer PM who has badly mishandled things and been advised consistently to do it differently by those who actually backed Brexit. To deliver something you need to believe in it, May should never have stood forwards since she clearly never believed in Brexit. It's not a damage limitation exercise like she's treating it, it's an opportunity but to achieve that you need to have some ambition rather than whatever May has.

The plan is to smuggle food through Holland and from Ireland. Also the governments of BMW and Champagne are ready to sign FTAs with England the day after Brexit Day.

Interesting to see the discussion around Norway For Now, btw. Those proposing it genuinely seemed to have no idea of the difficulty of getting the other EEA parties to accept a doubly disruptive temporary arrangement with a country that has made our clear—repeatedly—that it can't be trusted.

The UK wants the EU to agree to drop the Northern Ireland-only backstop in favour of allowing the entire UK to remain in a country-wide “temporary customs arrangement” with the 27-country bloc if no free trade deal can be concluded by time the transition period ends in December 2020.
Emphasis mine. What the fuck are these people smoking? We told them REPEATEDLY that a temporary backstop will NOT be accepted.

Any backstop should have an exit clause no longer than the two years of the Article 50 process.

Should, would, could. You seen to forget all that matters is what the EU wants.

And no, we are not impressed by your threath to walk away with no deal. For the simple reason you could not deal with a no deal situation.
    Congratulations America

You don't quite seem to comprehend why the backstop is to be included in the first place. Nothing new there.

Only when you've understood its purpose then you'll grasp why a time limit would make absolutely zero sense.

Sorry, we elected cretins. I feel bad that your governments have to deal with them.

Isn't it funny how the British currency now is merely an expression of how close a deal they hope to get with the EU?
    Congratulations America

There was a time limit on EU membership itself.

*shrug* A time-limited backstop solution to the Irish border issues isn't really a backstop

The alternative is a hard border which is what you've said you don't want.

*shrug* No, that's an alternative, but it is also not a backstop solution. The point of a backstop solution for the Irish border is to guarantee a number of things in the event of a No Deal Brexit, such as the total absence of a hard border and no substantial increases in checks etc. A time-limited backstop is not a guarantee. A hard border doesn't deliver the guarantees being sought (and that were promised). One alternative that actually serves as a backstop solution for the Irish border is to turn NI into a special customs territory separate from the UK. This is obviously unpalatable to the UK--or, rather, to a contingent of unionists on NI--but the UK being unhappy with the consequences of its own decisions and hasty promises is hardly a new phenomenon.

Precisely its an attempt to have your cake and eat it too. If there's No Deal then there are no guarantees. Insisting any deal is tied to a deal on the border is reasonable, and if the UK [or the EU] in the future enacts an exit clause on the deal then that would obviously terminate any trade deal reached and not just the border deal.

Say, you really want bombs to explode in London again, don't you? THAT is what you're playing here.

Don't complain to us when your idiocy lets shrapnel fly at your face.

No I don't, and I'll take no lessons from you about bombs. I've lived through the Troubles, my town was bombed, I was present in a scare. It's not a fucking football for you to try and score points with.

And FYI to nationalists it matters who caused the closing of the border. And you can forget about them not putting the blame on you.
And to unionists it matters too. So no you can't eat their cake, nor should we give it to you on a platter however much you try to risk violence by aggravating the situation.

Then why are you fucking around with this? You started this mess, you bear the responsibility for it.

Which reminds me: Doesn't the Good Friday agreement allow North Ireland to have their own referendum on seceding from the UK and making Ireland whole again? Without the British dingdongs having any say in the matter?

Sure, but nobody really wants that question answered. Conveniently (for England and for the Unionists), NI currently does not have a functioning govt that could pursue the matter, as SF appears to be banking on being able to increase support for reuniting NI with Ireland after Brexit. That being said, the UK govt. can indeed call a referendum, in NI, on the question of letting NI become a special customs territory. The DUP doesn't want this, and the Tories are wholly dependent on the DUP so they can't pursue this course of action. And so they have decided to screw the Northern Irish over some more.

Wanna bet ? The second no deal starts to be the most likely outcome you'll get to see how that Brexit is going to be. And that's when your government is simply going to cave. You'll throw the DUP under the bus and you'll sit up and give paw like a nice little poodle.
    Congratulations America

  25. #25
So you're quite content to throw one half of the population of Northern Ireland under the bus and risk violence and the end of the Good Friday Agreement if it means you can get one over Britain?

The DUP is not half of the people of NI.

And anyway, that is not relevant; you lot made a bunch of promises and the time for you to break your word without serious consequences has ended. The moment you lost control was when you voted to get out of the EU.

And you know something? I fucking told you so.
    Congratulations America

36% of the vote and 55% of the seats. Yet another example of the absurdity of FPTP.

Unionists are more than half of the people of NI but either way the DUP are the main elected party of NI. Any deal regarding NI must be acceptable to the people NI have elected which means yes the DUP. That's democracy, I know its not a concept you're particularly fond of but it is what it is.

Nothing absurd about it, they're the most popular party in NI. They are in the Assembly which is elected with the absurd PR system too.
