Thread: What game are you playing now?

  1. #2371
Hmmm admittedly I do much prefer the slower and more considered games; I find the rewards more ... rewarding. Plus, I'm generally just not quick enough to keep ahead of the l33t hedshot kiddies who play FPS type games.

Planetside2 is fun enough regardless, though I suspect getting killed by LOLYOULOSE99 for the millionth time will tire somewhat.

Will certainly check out MWO soon ...

Oh, I found it possible to get plenty of kills by specc'ing engineer and driving around in a Magrider or manning a turret when besieged by enemies.

With a bit of practice at estimating the arc of turret / tank shells, 20+ kill streaks are not out of the ordinary.

I also found that setting down a minigun turret at the entrance to a Biolab resembles a bit of a turkey shoot. Wide open space, enemies sail 20 meters into the air before settling on the platform and they usually arrive in one or twos. As long as no friendly moron runs in front of your gun emplacement, you'll have a fun time picking the enemy appart.

    SWTOR

cons: regenerating enemies. like, right in your face regenerating. Makes it rather annoying to clear an area, but that might be me trying to relate the gameplay to heavily to Guildwars

pro: they actually understand when do updates and server maintenance. In the wee hours of the morning. None of this bullshit of taking the game offline right before lunch and leaving it down till almost supper that I keep experiencing with Blizzard.

I was playing WoW the other night when it was taken down for an update. Bit frustrating, but to be fair it was 2AM GMT that it happened (3 AM server time) and was back up first thing in the morning.

I don't know how games like GW2 and Planetside 2 manage their maintenance/updates with just a restart and perhaps a download, yet WoW always take their servers down for hours on end for maintenance/updates.

SWTOR too takes theirs down for hours, though I seem to remember less hours than WoW.

Am hooked hooked hooked on Planetside 2. It works so well, I find myself utterly immersed in it.

Anyone own Dragon Age Origins and/or Dragon Age II?

Bioware has finally unlocked all those silly preorder bonuses for everyone.

When I try and login to claim that (with my Origin details) it tells me to sign up and asks for a username. When I type in RandBlade it tells me an account already exists with that name. I know that, it's mine! That's why I pressed login not create an account.

for anyone that still plays Borderlands 2, it won a bunch of vga awards, so their facebook has 4 or 5 shift codes that are valid all weekend.

Does anyone know how to switch loadouts in PS2?

    It's driving me nuts.

Switch loadouts? Like, while you're alive? You can do it at any equipment station. There are some buttons somewhere bottomish of the screen that you can use to do it while dead. If you mean customize your loadouts, when selecting, just click the little icon of whatever weapon/equipment you want to change.

  12. #2382
Yep I just meant to change from loudout 1 to 2 or 3. Equipment station huh. Bit crap. Needs a hot key.

    Thanks.

Just finished a Grand Campaign on Shogun II (using Shimazu IIRC, bottom-left green) on Normal Difficulty. Played almost every Total War game and normally play on Grand Campaign but this may be the first time I've ever finished one. Normally get bored once it becomes big before the end.

However I found this game a lot easier than the earlier ones. Possibly because of the island map, it was basically a case of starting in one corner and steamrollering along to the other end. As it was such a flat map, nothing coming in from behind.

I'd recommend trying Hojo on hard next, you'll find it more challenging than the Shimazu but not bastard hard like some of the others. Mori are another good middle of the road one, but they're in basically the same spot as the Shimazu so you'll probably want something a little differnet.

Did they ever fix the ridiculous load times in Shogun 2? It's the main reason I never got very far in the game.

  16. #2386
I kind of fixed it by buying a newer machine. My new Laptop loads it all quite quickly, it was unplayable on my last one.

No. Better GPU and CPU, same RAM. So not sure which fixed it.

I googled it, and switching to DirectX 9 made it bearable. Still longer than it has any right to be, but bearable.

  20. #2390
Can only guess that TW:Rome II will be even worse then. Its weird sometimes which games become unplayable on a certain system, my last Laptop could cope with many seemingly graphics-intensive games ... but now EU III and TW:Shogun. EU III I especially wouldn't have thought as graphics intensive.

I also played a campaign with these guys. Steamrolling nicely across the island a full stack landed on my homelands and I had to scramble back to defend it. Lost 3 cities before I managed enough troops to kick em out. And then mainly because I was able to replenish with new troops.

Most fun I had with Takeda though. Enemies on all sides. Defense always lacking. Dealing with the shogun from the start.

I need you to do my game shopping...you seem to be hooked into all the good info (or just have the time for it)

little of both . www.reddit.com/r/gamedeals and www.cheapassgamers.com are the easiest to follow.

this guy works for amazon and seems to be the one currently posting their deals. They also have a facebook page, but that seems to be mainly used for email contests.

There is also a website that tracks video game sales across digital distributors, so that you can check to make sure you're getting a good deal, but I'll have to post that when I get home, haven't moved my favorites into the cloud yet.

The problem is that you guys get far better deals than we do even though digital distribution online should theoretically be global. Amazon.co.uk STILL hasn't launched their digital distribution service.

Started playing Skyrim again. I think it's lolli's fault. She mentioned it once, which caused me to go out and get the DLC and spend four hours working on my house from Hearthfire.

Also still hopelessly addicted to Mech Warrior Online. I never thought I'd get this much mileage out of free game.

If anyone remembers playing XIII, GOG will only be offering it for a few more days before it gets pulled from their catalog for licensing problems. GOG is the only way I know of that allows XIII to install on modern machines. The DRM on the discs breaks during install for the original printings.

Gran Turismo on the PSP. Figured work was going to be dead so I'm glad I brought it along.

First Turismo game I've played in a very long time. These time challenges are extremely unforgiving.
