Thread: What game are you playing now?

  1. #2341
Anyone have any info on how the transition to f2p for SWTOR is going to go? Picked it up for $10 today, but I'm not sure if I should stash it for Christmas or for a birthday next weekend.

Also got MW3, Sims 3, and a 2nd copy of D3 for $10 each. Love when ToysRUs gets desperate for business.

Just preordered Dishonored as well. Autumn holidays will be fun, what with possessing rats and pumping aliens full of plasma.

Finished InFamous today. The storyline had a fucked up end but I really enjoyed it. Think I'll put Infamous 2 on my Birthday wishlist.

Currently downloading (Pre-Loading) XCom which will launch in the UK I'm guessing in about 19 minutes

Pre-loaded it fully on Monday but now its got another 2GB [last minute changes?] I need to re-download.

Quite like the idea of pre-installing it for a midnight launch, sure beats all the losers standing outside a shop at midnight queueing up to buy it first.

Or the losers staying up until midnight just to play what is likely still a very buggy game.

Actually I'm always up until after midnight anyway and am currently just browsing the web while watching recorded TV shows on Sky with Amanda. Just noticed that the games ready on the Laptop and posted about it, I probably won't even play it tonight.

Coworker has been playing xcom. Won't shut up about it. Its got a few gameplay issues where 1 or 2 bad moves can send you back hours to an earlier reload, but so far he seems to enjoy it.

I'm trying out Sleeping Dogs right now on the 360. Serious combat issues in the early game. Lots of cutscenes where I'm sitting there doing nothing. Otherwise its Triad GTA.

$20 off any order in Origin. That makes quite a bit of their collection free. Warning, the coupon at first meant any game under $20 was free (all in the same order), and it was abused horribly, so YMMV

Not sure whether to put it here or in the Xcom thread but I'm absolutely loving Xcom. Best new game I've got in a while, great to play a real tactical Board Game style game like this again. If anyone's wondering whether to get it or not (and maybe missing the other thread to avoid spoilers), I'd happily give it my recommendation

Anyone who tried this coupon can rest easy. Even though the coupon allowed for early users to load up on free games in a single purchase, and for the rest of the weekend worked repeatedly after clearing your cookies, and EA earlier suggesting that accounts maybe rolled back or limited, EA told PC Gamer that they will be honoring all transactions. Thats a fuckton of free games EA just gave away.

Shame it was USA only. Origin UK offers nothing of value, most of their digital games cost more than Game sell them for, let alone Play.com (physical shipped) or Steam etc

Got an email from Origin today, titled "Please accept our apologies" so I figured that they would in fact take back the freebie games. Open it up and its them apologizing for ending the survey early because the previous coupon was abused. But since they have it recorded that I at least took the survey, they are giving me another coupon for $20 off a game thats $19.99 or more. Their in game business practices may suck, but their PR department sure knows a thing or two about winning people over.

I have been playing Pro Evolution Soccer 2012. I am not a big fan of soccer, never was, but I must admit this game is quite entertaining.

Amanda got me Guild Wars 2 today, just installing it

Without trawling through all the threads, could someone please either give the basic need to know stuff about joining the Guild etc (or which thread has that information). Couldn't see an obvious "Start Here" thread.

    RandBlade.8962

Not created any characters yet. Still waiting for the game to finish updating all the files - two frustrations with this method; with WoW you can start playing after you've downloaded the necessary bits and it continues to download the rest in the background - this seems to require you to download everything; it doesn't say on the screen how much is left to download. I can see since I finished installing I've downloaded 2.6 GB already, no idea how much is left though there is a a percentage bar.

Holy crap, that's a lot of other Randblade's

LOL - Does it matter which world I join?

We're mostly on Maguuma, but it doesn't matter too much. I think you might get more guild benefits playing there. You can switch worlds once a week for free, and you can temporarily switch worlds whenever you have somebody in the target world to join, except in WvW.

  23. #2363
Some are labelled Europe or America, does it matter which I join of those. Can't see why it would?

Not really. Pick Maguuma (American) if you want to be on the same server as most of the rest of us, or just pick whichever European server sounds good to you.

All servers are physically located in the same place, so your choice has no effect on lag.

  25. #2365
LOL lag is half the point normally of continental servers. I suppose they're just named as fitting continents then in order that prime time playing has people on at roughly same time I guess

I don't think it works that way. I just picked it up and I'm Ominous Gamer 8 thousand something too. While smaller more obvious names gave me lower numbers. I think OminousG was in the 4 thousands.

The 4 digit number appended to your name is completely random.

I pushed aside GuildWars to enjoy 30 days of premium Star Wars Old Republic. Beginning of the game seems like nothing but fetch quests with endless supply of regenerating enemies, plenty of dialog and cutscenes (which look amazing). Considering this is my first true MMO, I mostly have no idea whats going on; especially since there no loading screens between zones.

Its nice to see some heavy hitters in the voice acting. One of the guys I have to report to about some bomb is one of the cop stars from the show Psych, and its extremely obvious.

    Planetside 2

    FTP. MMO FPS.

First MMO FPS I've played, and FPSs aren't what I normally choose to play.

However, Planetside2, developed by Sony, has astonishingly positive reviews, so thought I'd give it a try.

It's quite something. You're straight into chaotic action, fighting for one of 3 different factions over huge maps. The maps are divided up into sectors which you need to capture and hold. Different sectors have different resources, which allow tanks, APCs, and aircraft, to be controlled by players.

The action is satisfying, and great fun. Varies from wide open terrain to urban warefare to internal corridors and spaces. Being part of a huge squad of troops firing realistic-sounding weaponry, running alongside tanks which thump shells toward the enemy while attack craft swoosh overhead is almost joyous.

FTP so doesn't cost a penny either.

    Recommended.

I've been playing Planetside 2 in between batches of Mech Warrior Online. It's pretty good. Mech Warrior is still commanding most of my attention though. It's pretty cool how much enjoyment I've been getting from F2P games lately.

Timbuk: you should give MWO a shot. It's also free to play. It's a different type of shooter, slower paced and everything is very tactical and deliberate.
