Losers from different cultures manifest those traits differently. An American loser is going to stay in his mom's basement playing Warcraft. An Islamist one is going to try to blow shit up. Which is to say that being an Islamist is a necessary but not sufficient condition for going poof. Being a loser is neither necessary nor sufficient, but does act like a catalyst.

There are American losers who rob stores, beat people up, use or just sell drugs, shoot gangbangers and random strangers. What I'm trying to figure out is which specific disease it is we should fight if we want to avoid things like the Boston bombing. Is it the same disease as the one that gave us 9/11 and rocket attacks against Jews or is it the disease that gave us eg. Columbine?

I don't think they're losers in that sense of the word. These guys were utter failures at life. Gang members commit crimes in order to obtain protection or to gain some semblance of belonging. You get various sub-cultures within each culture, and it's pretty hard to deny that there's a small but not insignificant sub-culture in Islam that believes in blowing shit up. Similar people in the US would be picketing abortion clinics or joining militias.

I don't recall those hearings using the term "Christian" in their working titles. Extremism, militants, radicals, or cults -- yes. Congress focused on indoctrination after Jonestown and Waco; hate crimes after shootings at mosques and abortion clinic bombings -- not on 'Christian Extremists' as a minority among a majority religion (Christianity). I don't recall congress even doing that for the KKK and their terrorism, although its membership required being 'Christian'.
About 1/5 of the planet considers themselves Muslim or practices Islam, to varying degrees, and doesn't recognize what AQ or Bin Laden calls Islam. Plus, Jihad has more than one meaning. Most Muslims consider 'jihad' their personal journey or faith challenge, NOT suicide bombing, plane hijacking, or anything violent.
I'll say it again: I think it's a mistake for congress, and the public, to be "alarmist and emotional" about Muslims/Islam, and make knee jerk judgements based on stereotypes that only fit a tiny fraction of nearly two billion people! It's a bad idea to legislate and make policy based on any religion, let alone a twisted, perverted version of it.

Agreed. That's another way of saying that "Terrorists" don't share any one distinguishing trait, other than the damage they can cause. The resulting fear can make people irrational, suspicious, and prejudiced....which is the goal of "Terrorism", after all.
The Boston bombers were young, angry men who turned their anger into horrible violence. That they happened to be from a Russian Muslim immigrant family is secondary to their mindsets/attitudes. Their formative years were spent in the US, assimilating into our culture, attending our schools and growing up in our communities.
Their American family has denounced them, because they don't represent their values --- any more than the Unabomber represents his family's values....and hoping we don't add "Chechan" to the list of "Others" we decide to hate. It's a sad reflection on us that no cemetery in MASS would accept the body for burial, and now there's concern his grave could be a site of protests or vandalism. I don't recall any other mass murderer or terrorist having that problem. Can you?

There is a Pacific Gas andelectricity terminal near Milpitas Library. I am impressed by the huge pipes onthe ground which is several blocks away from the library. I passed by that sitesometimes when I go to Wal-Mart after leaving the library. It reminds me of themassive natural gas explosion that killed eight people and destroyed an entireneighborhood in San Bruno, CA, on Sept. 9, 2010. I think The Texas fertilizerplant explosion was created to justify an Utility gas explosion in Bay Area fora murder purpose.
