The difference between friends and colleagues. Friends: *raise eyebrow* "not too shabby". Colleagues: "OOOOHHHHH!!!!!! Wow! Look at you! Wow, looks great. I didn't recognize you" on and on and on.

I had a friend who would get really upset if you didn't both notice unprompted and make a fuss over her hair cut, and would be really over the moon if you did. So shallow but still was a good friend at the time.

Girls can be different though I guess.

[Last night there was a report on CNN about lap band and gastric bypass surgery. The criteria used to be a BMI of 40 (35 with diabetes or heart disease), but they want FDA to change it to BMI of 35 and 30. That would increase the number of candidates by about 20 million people.

It's controversial because the study was funded by Allergan, the company that makes the banding. Some physicians are questioning the study's validity. Not sure if that's what your sister had, but maybe there's a class action law suit to look into, Hazir.)

No it was a gastric bypass. What has upset most here is that following protocol has added to the rapidity with which the point of no return was reached. Logically that was late monday night, after that nothing could have worked any longer. They didn't communicate the actual situation in a clear way so that we were living between fear that she would die and hope that she would live untill 36 hours after it already had become hopeless. It's difficult to explain but it does make a difference to know that a dear one is going to die and having hope that she may still survive. It makes for a situation that you can't make real meaningful decisions about treatment and/or re-animation. In the end she was re-animated where it was medically certain re-animation served no purpose.

After seeing in what state she was at 2am I made up my mind about it, and came to the conclusion it was over. At 4 it seemed to be over but then 6 hours later, while we were sitting in an empty IC station next to hers I heard the sound of a monitor I had not heard before. Within seconds after that her sons were called over because the end had come. Then the re-animation circus started. I packed my backpack, and together with one of my other sisters walked out of the IC wing and went down to the cafeteria.

Snow is getting a bit annoying too. Friday we were stuck on the highway when it started snowing. Hardly any vision and 15 cm of snow, yay. On sunday we took the bus to Ghent, or tried to - we were waiting at a border town for the bus that never came. And we checked the website an hour before and then it still said that all buses were running. So there we were, stuck in a border town in the snow. Luckily a girl who was also waiting for the bus managed to get a ride, and we tagged along Then today I traveled back to the Netherlands by train, except all international IC trains between Antwerp and Amsterdam were cancelled so I had to take a shitty train that stopped everywhere and took a lot longer to get across the border. Then some of my connections never arrived because there were some 'technical difficulties' with the tracks or something. All in all, over 5 hours for a trip that's suppsoed to take three.

Yes Angel...this week has been pretty shitty! BFE lost 2 more great people since Saturday, all to be memorialized before Christmas! I am tired of going to services!

Then, I went to the doctor today, because I have generally been feeling like shit! I just discovered I weigh a whopping 81 pounds! FFS, even at my height, that's a bit skinny! Oh well, Christmas should fatten me up!
