The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun
Randblade's gonna be so sad when the world ends and God read's out the list of greatest countries, in order, and England is at 37 or something.

Hehe, and now they can't even Brexit because of this Scottish announcement ?
Congratulations America

Are we laughing with Rand because it was a joke, or are we laughing at Rand because it wasn't a joke?

"In a field where an overlooked bug could cost millions, you want people who will speak their minds, even if they’re sometimes obnoxious about it."
I said "one of". Though I'd be curious for you to name 36 ahead of us and an objective reason as to why.
It's not stupid. We are an ancient and successful nation that is wealthy, well educated, has our language spoken as the business language all over the world, has the rule of law etc etc etc
We meet all the requirements for being successful and the future is bright whatever we turn our hand to.
Not joking, what I said was true. The fact that some are laughing like hyenas in the Lion King doesn't make them sensible or me wrong.
It would surprise me if the world ends in my lifetime. Since I'm an atheist I'd also be surprised to see.God in any circumstances.
The world speaks American, nobody cares about what you speak.
Congratulations America
The reason your argument is incredibly stupid is because the past has no relevance for the future, really. And it's not like the British empire hasn't had periods of decline either. Expecting the future to be good because your past was good is very, very bad. Having a good future takes work or you'll slip back. If you based your future expectations on arguments that, for example, brexit is good, we might disagree but there'd be at reasoning behind it. This is just... well it'd be funny if you weren't serious.
Keep on keepin' the beat alive!
The British empire hasn't had periods of decline, the British Empire is over and done with. And there's nobody in his right mind outside of England who wants it back.
Congratulations America
The past has no bearing on the future? Really? Those fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
The reason the future is bright is not just that it was in the ancient past but still is in the present. The UK is the world's fifth largest economy in the most recent rankings and has been consistently on any mainstream measure a top ten nation globally for about 500 years at least. The reasons for that success from the past through to the present day still exist. The reasons I've already mentioned: a wealthy, well educated nation with the rule of law, language etc, etc
Why bother giving the Scots another vote? Seems as absurd as having a vote every few years about leaving the EU.
Calling for repeated votes until you get the answer you want is immature, even for a place whose semi-powerful leaders are exclusively named after fish.

And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?
The Scots voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU. So when the UK as a whole voted to leave, Sturgeon is using that as the platform to launch a second referendum under the banner of an independent Scotland applying to rejoin the EU, breaking the Union, and leaving England, Wales and Northern Ireland out of the EU.
Immature is one word. Pathetic is another. Stubborn and close-minded are two more.Calling for repeated votes until you get the answer you want is immature, even for a place whose semi-powerful leaders are exclusively named after fish.
To keep calling referendums until you get the vote you want is like a spoilt five-year old holding her breath until her stupid parents give her what she wants.
The funny thing is Sturgeon has immediately gone a bit eurosceptic immediately after calling for the vote on those grounds. More Scots voted to remain in the UK than voted to remain in the EU. While more than a third of SNP supporters (and nearly 40% of Scots) voted to Leave the EU. Not everyone is content to regain lawmaking powers from London only to palm them back off to Brussels. So now Sturgeon has said that an independent Scotland might not rejoin the EU...![]()

Then again, they were promised that if they voted to stay in the UK, they'd also stay in the EU.
Also, isn't this the exact same argument the Brexiteers made when they were wailing against the EU? "Oh no, those bueraucrats! Deciding stuff for us and we don't get a say!"
Thus it would be just a bit hypocritical for the British government to run roughshod over the Scots' interests and not giving them a proper vote in the process. Because that's having your cake and eating it, too. On the other hand, doing just that is par for the course for the Brits.

In 2014 it was already announced we were having an in or out referendum. In fact the SNP repeatedly stated that the only way to guarantee to stay in the EU was to vote Yes because otherwise Scotland could be taken out of the EU by English voters. That was a key argument used by the Yes campaign in their "once in a lifetime" referendum.
The Scots did get a say back in 2014. The question pre-announced before then for 2016 was should the United Kingdom Remain in or Leave the European Union. The Scots chose to remain in the UK knowing that. If the next Scottish independence referendum was to be held in 2055 that would be the same time gap as between EU referendums.
Make up your mind man; you want them gone or you want to whine about them having a vote?
Congratulations America
Yep that does sound like something cranky old farts like to do![]()
