Thread: Clinton 2016

Clinton has a positive message but because Trump is such a shithole there's too little media focus on both the positive messaging and the policy proposals.
"One day, we shall die. All the other days, we shall live."

What is her positive message and when did she last give a major speech extolling it?

"“The Reddit post issue and its connection to Paul Combetta is currently being reviewed by OGR staff and evaluations are being made as to the authenticity of the post,” Meadows told The Hill.
Reddit users appear to have uncovered a two-year-old post from an account believed to belong to Combetta, an engineer with Platte River Networks. The Denver, Colo.-based firm managed Clinton’s private server.

The post, which has been deleted but can be read in images archived by Reddit users, coincides with the discovery of Clinton’s use of the server.

“I may be facing a very interesting situation where I need to strip out a VIP’s (VERY VIP) email address from a bunch of archived email… Basically, they don’t want the VIP’s email address exposed to anyone, and want to be able to either strip out or replace the email address in the to/from fields in all of the emails we want to send out,” reads the post, by a user called "stonetear."

“Does anyone have experience with something like this, and/or suggestions on how this might be accomplished?”"

Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes. Honestly at this point you have to wonder just the level of ineptitude Clinton and her team has that they couldn't hire an IT guy who know what they were doing.

The most important is the "stronger together" theme that was highlighted during the DNC and will be pushed even more strongly over the coming weeks.

I think it's interesting that you believe negative messaging is a problem with Clinton's campaign given that the entire Republican campaign has focused on fear, danger, threats, distrust and the smearing of all political opponents as well as everyone that can be considered part of the establishment. If negative messaging is the key problem then it should hit the Republicans much harder than the Democrats, in this cycle. Of course, Republican voters seem uniquely susceptible to fear-based argumentation from their own party.

I haven't been extolling the virtues of the Republican campaign either ... though with his slogan at least there is a hint of positivity. That's it.

Yeah, making America great for disgruntled, uneducated, racist, uninformed, straight, white, Protestant dudes.

Her speeches tend to be focused on her and what she will bring.

They get very little news coverage, naturally.
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.

Hillary Clinton's speeches are pretty bad, IMO. She speaks too slow, in a halting manner, and relies on the teleprompter too much. You'd think someone with her public speaking experience (and coaching) would be better by now, at least in her delivery style. And she almost gets too wonky on policy, trying to cram so much info into one speech that by the time she's done the "theme" is lost.

Every time I hear her speak, I'm left with the feeling that what she wants to say, most of all, is that she's smart/educated/experienced/diplomatic/etc, as if she constantly has to "prove" her credentials. That comes off as insecure, and sometimes (paradoxically) arrogant. For a campaign whose slogan is Stronger Together, she should use WE more often than I.

"The message has been deleted, but can be read in archives of the page saved by other users.

The evidence linking the Reddit account behind the post to Combetta is circumstantial, but Reddit users insist it is compelling — and committee members appear to agree.

“I’m very confident that the amount of circumstantial evidence certainly points in one direction,” Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), chairman of the panel’s Government Operations subcommittee, told The Hill. “We’re just trying to make doubly sure that we can authenticate that in a real way, because if not it will be challenged on a number of fronts.”

“We have to verify the authenticity but we are pursuing it with vigor,” Chaffetz said. “On the surface it may be accurate, but we've got to make sure [the Reddit posts] are preserved and we have to dive deeper into the authenticity.”

It’s unclear what, exactly, the committee will be able to learn from the information Reddit preserves. According to the company’s public policy for handling official requests, it maintains basic subscriber information, like IP logs, which identify the computer used to access a site.

According to the policy, Reddit can maintain deleted records — like a user’s account — for 90 days if it receives an official preservation order. Otherwise, the information will be subject to Reddit’s “normal retention or destruction schedules.”

The Hill reached out to Reddit for comment but did not receive a response.

According to the post archived by Reddit users, an account under the alias “stonetear” messaged that he “may be facing a very interesting situation where I need to strip out a VIP’s (VERY VIP) email address from a bunch of archived email.”

“Basically, they don’t want the VIP’s email address exposed to anyone, and want to be able to either strip out or replace the email address in the to/from fields in all of the emails we want to send out,” reads the post.

“Does anyone have experience with something like this, and/or suggestions on how this might be accomplished?”

According to those archives, the post was sent on July 24, 2014. On July 23, the Benghazi Committee had reached an agreement with the State Department on the production of related records, according to the FBI's investigation into Clinton's use of the server."

    You did it Reddit!

This is old and as yet unimpressive news.

Old? Didn't this story break like 2-3 days ago? What is your definition of old?

    How about not today?

This race would be very different if debates were held based on any candidate registered in all 50 states. Johnson is on the ballot in 50 states (like Jill Stein), has legitimate executive government experience (certainly more than Trump). Yet the mainstream media only starts covering him when he goofs on the name of a Syrian city. Now my librul friends seem to weekly post random Salon, Slate and other similar stories attacking Johnson. Not sure what exactly to make of that, because I don't think Johnson is any more of a "threat" to Clinton than he was last month.

Full disclosure, I am likely voting Johnson.

I'm surprised to see that Johnson is polling so well in younger demos, but Stein isn't.

  14. #164
15% for Stein is 5 times her national average. And she's certifiably insane.

Jill Stein is not on the ballot in Georgia.

She can be written in, but that requires people who are crazy enough to vote for her to be able to spell her name.

I heard on the radio that Clinton's main goal for tonight is to make the American people think she's likeable.

    "likeable"

Leaving aside how absurd it is to judge a presidential candidate on that criteria, just look at who her opponent is - an obnoxious, self-aggrandizing, narcissistic, bigoted bully with the manners and morals of an especially unruly toddler.

Yet Clinton is the one who people think is 'unlikeable'?

America, get your shit together immediately.

The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun

I must say I find that unintelligible; you have the choice between a megalomaniac fantast and a woman who's not 'likeable enough' and likeable is all that counts for people to seriously risk having the megalomaniac fantast in the White House.

And let's not fool ourselves, there is a big chance that he will be there in a couple of months. Not because he's not an incredible liability to the USA, but because they can't imagine themselves voting for 'that woman'.

Not in the least surprised by the way that Randblade has joined the 'hate Hillary' crowd. His destructive streak knows no bounds.
    Congratulations America

That and come across as healthy.

Actually the likability factor is pretty big. The majority of voters are going to strike down the party line, either R or D. The swing voters are the fickle people who don't pay that much attention to politics. They will often vote with their 'gut' and how someone comes across at the debates will matter.

No I said the campaign is making a mistake by not being positive enough. Said the same thing in 2005 about the party I voted for which lost that election. Negativity can work but a positive message should be there too.

It's not great. The point was that the idea that 40% of young people are voting third party is bogus and based on polls with samples of 10-20 (of young people).

"Clinton, who needs Sanders' coalition of young and left-leaning voters to propel her to the presidency, pushes for open trade and open borders in one of the speeches, and takes a conciliatory approach to Wall Street, both positions she later backed away from in an effort to capture the popular appeal of Sanders' attacks on trade deals and powerful banks.

The excerpts of remarks by the former secretary of state, made in 2013 and 2014 in closed-door meetings where audiences paid to attend, were published online on Friday by WikiLeaks, which sourced them to the email account of John Podesta, Clinton's campaign chairman."

Sander's supporters are mad... they'll give her a stern talking to as they vote for her anyway. I actually don't condemn Clinton for her positions or for what she said there, in fact I agree with some of it (free trade is great) however I do condemn the blatant pandering and lying she gets away with. Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that she would say ANYTHING to get elected?

  30. #180
Are you just engaging in faux outrage here? What Clinton said is what virtually every politician says. There's absolutely nothing surprising there. Before 2016, this is what was considered typical political lying.

Must be great relying on info obtained by Russia and Assange by the way.
