That's funny!
I won't. He's only 2 hours away from me.
He's about the same distance from me too. I even proposed at one time he, Loki and I get together for a lunch or something. I think Loki would rather stick his pinky finger in a pencil sharpener and Cain didn't express any interest either. I do wonder how much he is like his persona here. In any case, PM me his address, whoever has it, and I'll send him a letter. I'll hand write it mirror-image backwards. I've gotten pretty good at that and I think it will spook the crap out of him.![]()

I can't believe you guys want to entice the biggest crybaby the board has ever seen to come back here. Didn't we just get rid of one? Zuchov was much more disruptive than Tear has ever been...how many different spellings did he use to come back and attack the mods with verbal insults? Whatever...just be careful what you wish for.
Faith is Hope (see Loki's sig for details)
If hindsight is 20-20, why is it so often ignored?
Eh. I fought with Cain quite a bit way back when but then I grew to understand his nature and all that stopped. It was the same thing with Loki. Once I understood what he was all about, I stopped getting angry at him.

Hell no. In fact, under my first Atari account I lambasted his ass for comments about the military. Specifically his claim that a soldier's job is to die. Strangely enough I immediately confessed my sin to dread, as if he would not have seen it anyway. I may be many things, but I am not cain.
The worst job in the world is better than being broke and homeless
Yeah I disagree.
If anything Atari was ludicrously out of touch with their community, had no idea who they were or what they wanted, and had no interest in listening to the truth when it was warned what would happen to the site as consequence.
It didn't matter what anyone in the community did or didn't do..they decided beforehand, and ignored anything that wasn't syncophantic yes-manning from a mod I won't name called Timmy.
I like this site better actually...less bullshit, even from before Atari decided to do it's monkey fucking a football impression.
Yeah, beyond the aforementioned suicidal CC vet deliberately trying to contact Atari execs and destroy the forums, Atari had very little conception the place even existed until they hired an intern (Mattlab), a community manager (Ciel) and then Gregg Baker to run the place as a game platform and fan community.
At the time I was cautiously optimistic because I thought maybe they had finally recognized that the traffic there was something that could be nurtured to improve their brand and develop a more robust online community. But they seemed to totally not get that running an online community meant dealing with people. And that not everyone would be a raging fan who loved Atari unconditionally, never complained and never wanted to talk off-topic.
Even adding advertisements would have made the forums very profitable versus the cost and would have at least recognized the minimal value of the folks there as eyeballs to sell ads agains (we ran some tests with AdSense ads that went well). But apparently Atari signed some ludicrous exclusive marketing arrangement with another company that prevented them from being part of a 3rd party ad network.
Ultimately once it was clear that Gregg Baker was effectively embezzling from Atari, giving secret admin privileges to his non-employee friends and wasn't worth his ~80k pounds/year, they got rid of him. But clearly no lessons were learned at all because they put Cryptic in charge of the place to run the Star Trek Online gambit. As you said, they never saw anyone as people, just as a bunch of ten year old robots to buy their games. Ignoring that half of their game fanbase was over 18.
Hey! A few of us from games.com tried to tell y'all what a scam Baker was running! But no one wanted to listen to computer "idiots". That should have been a lesson for admins to learn. Just because someone knows coding and can host a server from their home, doesn't mean they have good intentions.

He actually really didn't know any coding at all, as far as I could tell. And he was the admin. His behavior on the place isn't what directly got him canned, in theory he was doing what Atari wanted because Atari wanted a forum full of robots. He had no oversight of the forums beyond me and a few others furiously lobbying our contacts at Atari about where he was crossing the line.
What seems to have gotten him canned was he was running the traffic numbers into the ground, he was building a rival site to the one he was supposed to be developing for Atari*, he made Grampz an admin (possibly with the ability to read PMs) and I suspect he spending a bit too lavishly on his 2-3 pointless business trips to NY.
* This is now known as "Zuckerberging".
Whatever, we tried telling you guys he was running a scam. Bigjim was quite clear and had proof about admins reading PMs. We all had proof about that damn Grampz and those weirdo mods from Baker's game site. What a buncha yuck.
Glad that's not part of TWF.![]()
You think we didn't know?
We just had to be polite, he was quite prepared to demod me and Rand with any excuse he could find. I believe he spoke about this very explicitly with Timothy. For whatever reason, he never felt he was in a political position to do that. Possibly because he knew we had done nothing obviously wrong, so I would simply go to my contacts at Atari (who were all gone by the time Cryptic came around) and start trouble.
I'm not totally sure to be honest. After all, on the two more serious instances when unaffiliated Atari execs got involved in those issues (from aforementioned CC vet sending them insane e-mails) we were explicitly told to end all off-topic chat on the forums and make the place "nice" by purging "not nice" people. We promptly ignored those instructions because eventually those execs melted away. Or got laid off.

I totally did not see this thread.
I do miss ']['ear already!
I found Cain hilarious! His abuse was so creative, it always made me laugh.
Always walked along the narrow line on the edge of ban-worthiness.
Was certainly an interesting place when he was around.

Wow - so much went on behind the scenes. Wasn't aware of any of these shenanigans.
Cain was fun for a while, then he got repetitive. I read lots of his posts with an attitude of "yeah, I know already". Having said that, it's not like it bothered me.
I could have had class. I could have been a contender.
I could have been somebody. Instead of a bum

He had a really caustic way of stringing words together. He would have made a good don-rickles style commedian. Too bad he died.

Yeah, it got sort of intense at times. Gregg Baker is a piece of work. But when the Cryptic guys started filtering in it was like the Borg invading, you could just feel what was going to happen. That is, if the Borg were unusually unintelligent corporate drones.
For the majority of the time, there were things we (including the non-mod members) could do to preserve the place. But ultimately when the Cryptic guys came in we were just in the way, EG how Rand was demodded for absolutely no reason.
But now I don't care and I can be a pissant tell-all, so line up and ask!
Yeah, it did get tiresome. In some respects, this was like Tear except Cain's rage wasn't always genuine and he sure as hell never tried to muck things up behind the scenes or even cared about anything really.

I was actually the first member to me perma-banned. If Tear is as mature as a seventeen-year-old, then he should be back too in half a year or so.
Jerk, I like Cain. He shook shit up like a magnitude 9 earthquake. While disruptive, they were the funniest and most conceited comments i've ever seen. He managed to out-troll this one guy Jesus dude on this one forum who quoted the bible when replying.
Who are you?

Sigh. My comments are based off of what Cain himself used to say. That he was skirting the law, and he likes his women very young. Dunno why everyone else forgot that; and I didn't even get into reading the Main CC until 2009 or so....
Anyway, even though I found some of his exchanges entertaining, some of them was like beating a dead horse over and over and over. Especially when he didn't like someone; he'd find a reason to start things with them.
If i tell you, i'd be obligated to kill you.
Well, the fact that you're a "young" woman yourself just makes you aware of the fact that Cain could possibly track you down and indulge in hedonistic and other worldly pleasures.
In his defense, it was mostly Tear and Lewk. I can find at least ten posts where members explicitly requested Cain to ridicule Lewk.
EDIT: When i said "young" it was relative, you're in your early twenties. Compared to most of the decrepit, archaic ruins on this site, you're young, but to yours truly and knux, you're like a dinosaur.

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.
