You missed the "-isim" stage. Communisim, Socialisim. For a while I struggled with whether to correct or not, correcting a typo on teh internets being somewhat crass, right? Easy typo, "-isim." But then I realized that it was about 80% "-isim," so actually the correct spelling was likely to be the typo. I pointed it out to Lewk a few times, and he finally stopped mis-spelling "-ism" that way. So, clearly "-isim" wasn't a typo, but a real mis-spell. This was when he was in college.
Everybody makes typos. I find that certain words will come out when thinking of others sometimes, and I won't catch them without spell checking. But spell checking, especially in a forum like this, seems like a waste of time. Given that, and that Dread is a pretty smart cat, makes me doubt that he ever confused "then" and "than." Very seriously doubt it, actually. It is usually the sign of somebody who doesn't read much. Guaranteed Dread read a lot as a kid.
I read voraciously as a kid, and in college. In 5th grade the school had a reading contest, minutes spent reading during March. The third-place guy, Tyler, had spent ~500 minutes reading that month. I clocked in at ~3900, and my twin brother broke 4k. In writing here and other forums, I still find myself having to stop and think about which one I just used. Same for "its." I frequently have to pause and figure whether I'm trying to use the contraction or the possessive. And I really want to spell parallel with an extra L at the end. Though that one's not my fault. It just makes sense, as a communication symbol, for the word to have two parallell sets of parallel letters.
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"
Bumped for Dread.
Faith is Hope (see Loki's sig for details)
If hindsight is 20-20, why is it so often ignored?
Sure, that's true for most smart kids. But hammering out a quick post doesn't mean that you have to be perfect. A fair amount of it is literally physical memory. It's/its, then/than, lay/lie. There are a lot that people need to pause to remember. But you can tell those who don't know the difference from those who aren't treating posts like a term paper. I make plenty of typos (Cain caught me on insure/ensure just yesterday), but I think nobody could detect systematic errors that denote ignorance. Same for you, same for Dread, etc etc. Lewk is, in fact, different in this regard. He is not well educated, and he sneers at education. And you know what? It shows, and in more ways than just vocabulary/grammar.
I will say that my all-time favorite is "Mr. Gubervitch, tear own this wall!"![]()
A classic CC malapropism.
I missed this until now.
Errr, all I can say is not really. Unless we're looking at my sixth grade essays, I haven't had trouble with "then" and "than" except one or two recent instances. One was last week.
The main reason for the slipups is I do the bulk of my posting before work (rushed sleepyness) and after work (tired, or with a drink or two in me). I'm still not sure why you called it out last week (and now), I guess this is just a peeve of yours.

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.
You should probably be more frightened by the number of Lewks who become cops.

Or fathers.
I could have had class. I could have been a contender.
I could have been somebody. Instead of a bum
Which is what I am
I aim at the stars
But sometimes I hit London
Or presidents!
When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?
The light that once I thought compassion still casting shadows in your action
The words you shared were cold transactions that bring me to curse what you've done
When you're up there absorbed in greatness with such success you've grown complacent
I hope you scorch your many faces when you fly too close to the sun
Is this an "and my axe!" reference?
. . .
no

In this scene (I think), he's invited a co-worker over to listen to some wicked-awesome 80's music, and is about to hack him up for... having better business cards than him? Or upstaging him in general - something petty and psychotic like that.
Enh, well, to be factual here, you want your soldiers to be remorseless, kill-happy maniacs.
But that type of person is exactly the type of person who should never be allowed to carry a badge and gun. (Yet, at least in this country, it's customary for piggies to celebrate and high five each other after fatally shooting a suspect. "Woohoo! We killed a petty robber - high five!" Fucking disgusting. More cops need to be shot in the head, if you ask me.)

And your incessant tendency to break laws has nothing to with your hatred of pig-cops. Personally, I blame Duke Nukem

They're both related to the same thing, naturally - but it's more a case of not respecting a legal code which is much more about political bullshit than the legitimate functions of the state (protecting citizens' rights) and more than anything, is a convoluted clusterfuck of societal and political hypocrisy.
As to hating cops, not like there's a bad reason, but it's more about them being control-freak scumbags who are the modern equivalent of highwaymen form the olde country. They're worse than the criminals they allegedly protect us against.

With all due respect Cain, it just ain't that bad. I get that you are a misanthrope, and that you blame the government for what you should be blaming on your peers. But you are a white male in one of the best countries on earth. The world is your oyster. There's just not a whole helluva lot for you to complain about.
Well, golly-gee-whiz, but the "benefit" of democracy is that it blurs the lines between stupidest of my peers and the morons they elect into government. A government of the morons, by the morons, for the morons. That's how that goes, right?
Only if your primary concern is material wealth. If it's not, as is the case with me, then there's plenty to complain about.

Heck if the robber resisted arrest or had a gun then what do you want to have happen? Let the police get shot at? From your post it sounds like it. And ultimately if the criminal dies it saves tax payers a boat load of money and makes the world a better place. But that type of person is exactly the type of person who should never be allowed to carry a badge and gun. And hit, ideally.
Speaking of saving taxpayers bucket-loads of money, do you know that an officer getting shot to death before retirement saves taxpayers millions of dollars on bullshit public-sector pension pay outs? Seems to me like you should be calling for more violent criminals to help reduce budget shortfalls. As long as they only kill cops, and not actual people, everything's fine!
Ideally, you have a constitution that's actually followed, instead of ignored when the ignorant masses find it convenient. Or you could ban the left side of the bell curve from voting. Or continue the current practice of letting the stupidest half of humanity divide up our resources, and wonder why it goes horribly wrong.

Who'd formulate a constitution that's infallible, immutable and valid in decades to come? The 'founding fathers' weren't demi-gods, despite what most Americans seem to believe. Banning the left side of the bell curve from voting sounds an awful lot like Plato, who was the grandpappy of fascism. And so it goes.
