The only one that got banned was Tear. Cain got paranoid, deleted all his posts and disappeared. Probably changed his address, phone number and name too.

Cain's been banned a few times.

No, because there were/are always plenty of other threads to read and plenty of other posters to respond to.

Cain is most likely in hiding from the law, or in Federal prison. Just sayin'

Maybe y'all don't personally know how renal failure or electrolyte/metabolic imbalance can influence a person's mentation or behavior.

Minx should have known and given a certain allowance for that, I would think. Ironic that he was reluctant to use medical allowances for a veteran poster, and it ended in banning a long time valuable member. One of the few people who could talk to him in scientific medical terms. Strange and sad, huh.
Tear made certain we were all aware that yeah, his behavior was altered. He was clear that he knew his behavior was and would be erratic and hostile, and that he chose, with cold calculation, to express all that here, to try and minimize its effect on his "real life." He considered us acceptable targets for his pain. I'll put up with that from a friend, but he deliberately chose to spew on us because we weren't his friends, he didn't want the people actually in his life to have to put up with his shit.
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"

LF, you would really put up with that from a friend?

I wouldn't voluntarily accept that behaviour myself, and would say so, or start distancing myself.
I don't like being around hostile people, and as a real life example, I made some potential new friends, a married couple, and after seeing how the husband treated the wife while they worked together, I felt these aren't people I want to be around.

If the behavior was an aberrant expression of some medical/psychological condition, I would put my best effort into helping a friend through it. Tolerating some abuse (non-physical of course) if necessary. But at some point I would have to draw the line, so-to-speak. But, as has been pointed out, he chose to abuse us who have no special inclination or need to put up with such behavior. If it was that bad, he should have sought professional help. Instead he heaped as much bile as he desired onto these boards, without regard. Health issues aside, he still chose to act on his impulses, and nobody should be forced to endure such abuse when he failed to even try avoiding posting. I was once told that we are not required to post every word we type. But then, most of you already knew that.

It is wise to direct your anger towards problems - not people; to focus your energies on answers - not excuses.

I don't like to be around hostile people either, which is ironic since I have no other way to interact with my family.

If people are hostile IRL it's possible to cut off from them to, even family.

Sadly this has happened with Amanda. Due to a confrontational event between myself and her sister's boyfriend, her sister became pissed off with me and then her and said that Amanda was "dead to her" and they haven't spoken for about six months. After we moved house we decided together not to tell her sister our new address. Considering her sister is the only family she has in the UK this has been quite upsetting for her

That's pretty awful. What kind of fight did you have?

I disagree, if everyone wasn't 'sick' to one degree or another I doubt this community would have survived the Atari culling.

It was opportunistic, vindictive and created frustrating levels of discord for members who genuinely sought the sense of community. The truly ugly fact about it though, is that I was aware of this practically the entire time, but couldn't see any way to undo the infamy, and thus in some twisted way, I enjoyed it.

In hindsight, it was likely more or less the conflict that surrounded myself (and quite a few others) which contributed towards the conditions surrounding AtariForums' demise.
    Anyone reading this disagree?

I created an account here, made a few lightweight posts and observed, but hovering above that was the stubborn idea that perhaps a collective apology thread would not be untoward??

I found him though, through his connections with Moo3 projects I believe and his online business identity as a programmer, even his location, associations and a record with Ohio state police.
His paranoia was justified I believe.

Well maybe if he'd stop doing illegal things...sorta wish he stopped by every so often.

  16. #106
Bah don't say his name three times or else he may come back

I thought he was rumrunner initially.

He did celebrate his own unabated alcoholism and gambling quite frequently while still maintaining those vices made him some sort of superior humanoid.

  22. #112
Well I think my whoring makes me a superior humanoid, what's your point?

(I'm joking, I'm saving myself for marriage)
We're stuck in a bloody snowglobe.

  23. #113
Well I wouldn't drink with or gamble with Cain on account of his semi-automatic weapon pointed at my nads under the table, whereas I assume you're a weapon in the bedroom, so I'd probly go there.

(That would be foolish, think about all you've accomplished)

Ok. This is quite an admission. And to be honest I was surprised to see you here, as I seem to remember a parting of shot of yours at the other place was that you would not be joining the new community if/when it moved.

I never tangled with you Widows, in fact we had a few good conversations, but I think just about every other regular member did tangle with you.

The only thing I did get upset about your ugly behaviour was that it drove gogobongopop away; you two had a barney, he said enough is enough and walked away, and has not returned to the fold since. At least that's how I remember it. I wish he'd come back.

In hindsight, it was likely more or less the conflict that surrounded myself (and quite a few others) which contributed towards the conditions surrounding AtariForums' demise.
Fairly certain there were policy changes higher up in the Atari chain, and that the modding revamps were nothing to do with anything untoward in the forums. Dread et al would know more.

Don't think it would be necessary, though the notion is nice.

As my remarks over the Tear debacle have clearly stated, I am all for inclusiveness, and I will back anyone who holds their hand up and admits to previously shitty behaviour.

An apology thread would just be OTT though I think.

    Everyone likes to move on.

Well at least you finally admit you were deliberately being an ass. Though I don't think you were abusing inconsistencies, you sure got plenty of warnings. You were just aware that we rarely instabanned ban people expressly for being an ass. And I didn't want to ban you because you were clearly more intelligent and funny than most people in DBZ. Can't speak for Timothy though...then again Timothy might be a sociopath for staying over there.

Nah, far from it. The place had an axe over its head for years. We came close to being nuked a few times, especially when a CC forum veteran went haywire and sent spammish ranting e-mails to Atari execs complaining that the moderators were a racist, anti-semitic, anti-American cabal bent on undermining Atari.

Many of the mods struggled mightily to stop it from becoming what it is, but ultimately Atari got Atarded on it and imposed crazy rules. Your personality had nothing to do with Atari demanding we enforce rules banning all frustration, emotion and complaints. It just took a while before Atari decided to do its thing and screw the place up.

But I think we're the better for it over here in a lot of ways. EG I can say that it's time I fucking get to work. And that Timothy might be a sociopath.

No Shit!?! That is frackin' hilarious. For a moment I was going to ask you to PM me his address and I'd send him a letter, but now that I think of it, I'd rather not take the risk.
