You're on, although in light of recent events you may prefer to use an endorsement from Putin.

    lol that is quite amusing.

Except she was never banned, her music was boycotted after she said "we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas" and it turns out most country music fans don't appreciate that sort of language. Whoever would have expected that. A boycott is not a ban. It also was never a total boycott and she has profited considerably from the controversy (as most musicians do which is why they tend to love this outrage) for years since.

A select group certainly boycotted the group, but they were very much banned from the radio from a while. To say that a radio DJ wasn't allowed to play their music because of a decision from higher up is still a boycott and not a ban is nothing more than arguing over semantics. DJs who did play their songs were even fired. Shit like that happens when so much of the radio waves are controlled by a single organization, based out of Texas no less. Iheartradio reaches 245 million out of our ~320 million.

But I'd love to see this "profited considerably" comparing a before and after.

Think about the demographics of Trump supporters. Then think about the demographics of country music fans. It's quite obvious why there are no bans for Trump supporters in that industry.

Poor Pence. That dude is doing back flips trying to 'explain' Trump's statements.

  11. #1151
She must have been sarcastic as well. Pence deserves everything he gets for agreeing to this.

You've never felt sympathy for James Wesley? You gotta admire someone who is doing a shit job to the best of their ability.

  13. #1153
I'd be more sympathetic if he had to take that job. He didn't. Could have stayed on as governor of Indiana. The only one who won from Pence's decision is Trump.

Pence wins if Trump is forced to withdraw and he becomes nominee by default.

A lot of the fence sitters have left trump because of how far back Pence's policies would put the US socially and economically. Pence might win back the small percentage of non crazy clinton supporting but party loyal republicans, but he would still fall far short of becoming an actual threat.

“My students are terrified of Donald Trump,” says one teacher from a middle school with a large population of African-American Muslims. “They think that if he’s elected, all black people will get sent back to Africa.”

Wow those teachers are colossal failures if their students believe that.

  19. #1159
It doesn't help when Trump-supporting students make precisely those claims.

Kids will say lots of things. If others actually believe it that's on their parents and teachers to make sure they understand fiction and reality. Think back to some of the ridiculous stuff you heard as a child, ghost stories, students going missing after detention etc.

  21. #1161
Except Trump has made it acceptable to say racist things. And acceptable to engage in racist violence. Read the summary of the two pieces above.

How is it the teacher's fault? Trump is already on record about wanting to kick one minority out of the country. They would be irresponsible if they tried to tell the kids they shouldn't have any such fear. They absolutely should. I don't think Trump will ruin the country, but that's doesn't mean I don't fear that it could happen. I could be wrong in thinking enough other elements in the political system would stop him, I thought they'd keep him from getting nominated at all, after all/
Last night as I lay in bed, looking up at the stars, I thought, “Where the hell is my ceiling?"

No real comment. At this point you'll see plenty of Republicans who value party unity over ideological purity.

Even when it means joining Trump in going after military families? Can you imagine what would happen if Clinton did this?

He's not going after military families. If I say Nidal Hasan was a scumbag piece of shit am I 'going after the military' ? Now before you jump all over me OBVIOUSLY the two are different but it seems your criteria is simply 1 + 2 = 3. 1. They are part of a military family. 2. Ricky Perry attacks them. 3. Rick Perry goes after military families. Its a rather juvenile argument and ignores the work he's done on behalf of veterans and the fact that he is a veteran himself.

No, he's only defending the guy who went after a dead soldier's mother and religion.

So let's pretend an alternate universe the guy was the nominee for the Democrats. Could Trump and surrogates not go after the Democratic nominee because he had a family member who defended his country and lost his life? I'm just curious at what level do you think immunity occurs. Because I'm sure you and many liberals launched more than a few attacks against a vet who was a POW and tortured for years...

The bottom line is that I'm not going to make bones about Perry making political statements during a political campaign against a Hillary surrogate. I think Trump is an idiot for going after the guy because it makes zero political sense. All he had to do was ignore him, make a statement about how he doesn't want anymore lives lost needlessly and that Obama/Clinton tactics against ISIS will make it more likely more service members will be killed. Pivot and move on instead of giving the guy more time in the spotlight.

You know I voted for McCain in '08, right?

The issue isn't going after the couple; it's going after them in a highly inflammatory and racist way. Do you remember Cindy Sheehan? This was someone who said some zany things about Bush. Do you recall Bush acting this way towards her?

Wow you sure have gotten a lot more liberal in the last 8 years.

Trump was incredibly dumb here, he does that a lot. He's not a good candidate. That being said for politicians who are pushing for party unity they are going to back Trump, I'm not going to hold them in contempt for making a decision that Trump is better than Clinton.
