Am currently using a second hand HTC hero, about two years old. Touch screen is pretty much screwed up, almost impossible to type with it. And it works way less well than an equally old Galaxy S.

It was launched over 3 years ago so it's not all that surprising... they really did a good job on the Legend though, I have a few friends who're still rocking theirs

Do you guys use screen protectors and/or cases? What manufacturers are better than others? I've obviously heard about Otterbox but I'm curious whether they are worth the price tag.

I don't use a case no, but looking back through this thread, seems most do.

I don't use a case or skin. Used a screen protector for a while but haven't for over a year now. No scratches or other notable blemishes, still looks like new just don't put your phone in the same pocket as your keys the One X has some fab skins though.

I send my friend the measurements of my phone and she knits me a slightly-snug woolen/synthetic wool case. Sort of like a phone condom.

No joke, I really think it's the best solution if you can't find a snug synthetic case. Helps prevent scratches, gives you something to rest the phone on when it's outside your pocket and you can make it look really cool (when not looking ridiculous).

Phone cozies, eh? I settled on the HTC One X (GS3 didn't seem worth another $100) and ordered an Otterbox Commuter. It seems to strike a nice balance between protection and bulk, though we'll have to see how I feel after lugging it around for a while. Finding a place to store my keys is going to be a rather more difficult task.

You can also simply use a baby sock instead of calling all your knitting friends.

Not a bad idea. Though I fear phones these days are too wide to make that work.

Plus sometimes I think my knitting friends get about as much from the exchange as I do. It's hard to knit stuff that's as relevant to their friends as a cellphone case. One can only get so many small knit hats, and it sure as hell takes them less time than knitting a quilt or sweater.
