Well, I hate assholes who call other assholes assholes.
space cushion? I've never heard that one before. Sounds like something from a bad sci-fi movie, or the space shuttle.

You asshole, hating those who call other assholes what they are---assholes.

I'd let you into merging traffic, but flip you the bird if you honk at me while I try to turn left on yellow.

A small accident at work - I dropped a flask containing a compound, which took a couple of months to produce.
And, to make things more interesting, the flask contained a recrystallization solvent too - in this case, acetic anhydride. The hot weather contributed to its evaporation, and so I could enjoy its lachrymatory effect to full extent while cleaning up the mess.

eww, that sounds bad. Any time I see "anhydride" or "anhydrous" I kinda gag. Not because I'm a chemist like you, Baltic, but because my ex husband tried to remove a 1930's refrigerator coil from the top by cutting the cable. It spewed anhydrous (something or other) into our house. I felt it outside, when my skin started to burn. The cats were inside at the time. He came upstairs choking and red, still trying to fix his mess. I called 911 and the hazmat team had to don those space suits with closed ventilator oxygen masks.....

they had to set up a reverse osmosis/ventilations scheme thingie, with huge power fans and stuff, closing certain windows, opening others

all the window screens got tarnished, all the houseplants died, and they told us he would have died in another 3 minutes if I hadn't called for help. They hauled the damn fridge to the driveway to spew its anhydrous whatever, and it even changed the black asphalt to grey, and left some corrosive marks like a trail of tears.

He laughed. ha ha. Good thing the kids weren't home, and I could corral the cats before they were asphyxiated.

oh yeah, and he kept the damn fridge. It's now in his house and used as a liquor bar, with bottles of booze and fancy glasses. He's an artiste, you see.

Anhydrous ammonia. Nasty stuff, yeah. A lot nastier than my acetic anhydride, which is not toxic (by my standards, anyway), only acts as a decent substitute for tear gas.

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.
The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference.

I feel your pain. Did a bunch of stuff today. Most of it was laundry, and none of it is anything that will have any lasting impact or importance on my life, but apparently is stuff other people thought needed to be done.

4th day in a row of having an awful ache and pain in left shoulder/upper arm, rendering the arm effectively useless as I can hardly move it without wincing.

It's the most beautiful weekend - ~25 degrees C, no clouds in the sky - I'm desperate to get the kites, buggies and boards out and get back into the kitesports but can't cos of my fuckerating spasticated arm.

Have to register with a local doc and get this checked out.

Yeah do that, I don't think having a busted arse shoulder is ideal for kiting - did the injury perhaps come from the sport in the first place?

Been such a glorious weekend, but I've been having to work each day of it. Yesterday was 32.5C inside, currently it's 30.5C in here, the Air Con just can't cope.

Still enjoying it though. Was able to get out early yesterday, go home and we just sat on my back garden swing in the sunshine with some cocktail drinks. hoping to get out early today too; Got the drinks ready for tonight and some sausages for our first barbecue of the season.

Oops, my post was supposed to go in Happy not Groove thread. Why I don't normally post from my phone while at work.

Hope you can get some good news from the Doc Tim, it's worth getting it checked out.

I had a gig last friday, which was fun and all, and there was also a californian band on tour there. Hung out with them, was fun and all, but with all the free booze (perks of playing in a band ) I got completely fucked up black out drunk I didn't manage to eat anything on saturday.

Oh, and I almost forgot: I also did not know where my phone and my bass guitar were. But at least I managed to find those fairly quickly by calling around

Amanda became a 'grandorphan' today . Got woken up this morning by a phone call to say her grandfather had died in his sleep.

Both her grandma's and her other grandfather had already passed away

It has been a fuckered up 2 weeks, dammit! The Friend was last here on the 9th, and probably won't get back this way for another 2 or 3 weeks! Mommymunchkin did something weird to her eye, so been going to the doctor with her a couple times in the last 2 weeks, and either I did something to re-injure my back, or the weather is playing hell with it, because the pain meds aren't touching the pain. I have been on a 2 week drunk, and I just need to get my shit together, but I hurt to fucking bad!

I just heard that the man I saw earlier this morning, and whom I thought to be just a drunk sleeping it off (though even that is something we don't see too much in my street) was actually dead. Rumour has it that he OD-ed but that's only street gossip. We did sort of look at him but didn't get close enough to see if he was still alive. I guess we should have checked a bit closer.
    Congratulations America

I've been itching to get the third book of the Mistborn series but of course when I finally get some good Borders vouchers they don't have it in stock.

Borders bookstore needs a motto. I propose "The second book of the series" because that's all they ever fucking seem to have.
Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. There are 387.44 million miles of wafer thin printed circuits that fill my complex. If the word hate was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of miles it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for humans at this micro-instant.
    For you.

Played my first game of the boardgame Risk tonight.

Fuck that game, seriously fuck it. I've seen computer games that require fewer calculations, counting, and the insane amount of clusterfucking thats required to keep the turns running smoothly.,

  25. #25
Eh? With 5 people, it usually takes about 5-10 a turn until you're near the end of the game.

One game of Risk my friend's and I played went hilariously. A friend of mine had left me with only Britain after stampeding through Europe to get to another of my friends in Asia. He then completely ignored the fact that I controlled Britain and was amassing troops there because his land war in Asia was going bad (who would have thought). Whenever it was possible I'd swap down to the smallest number of physical units possible, to keep down on possible visual impact. Eventually my one friend, the one in Asia, had to point out to the other one who left me in Britain, that he wasn't overlooking four armies sitting in the middle of his occupied territories, but four cannons or forty armies. The resulting assault I unleashed was enjoyable and in the end I did not make the mistake of leaving him with any territories.

I believe I must sober up sometime today. I completely fucked up my wrist yesterday when I fell on it. X-rays show a hairline fracture, but the fucker hurts like hell. Of course, they can't give me anything stronger for pain because I am already on 2 different pain meds!

Oh yeah, they want me to go see the orthopedic surgeon in Casper...like I can really afford that!

Trying to quit hurting for one damned day!

Also, I missed seeing an old friend today, because I hurt so fucking bad I couldn't even go outside. On top of that, I had to postpone the one month inspection of my apartment because I caught a killer cold yesterday. Of course, I can't take cold meds with my pain meds, so Munchie suffers! THEN, to top it off, The Friend called me from NYC, sitting in total gridlock! He has put in for home-time, but he is in Kentucky tonight, so it won't be happening for at least another three or four days, if then!
