Would that make a difference? The "Electoral College" votes have already been tallied, and Trump got to 270 before Clinton did. I'm willing to admit that I'm confused about the process. Using a sports/baseball analogy, it's not the total runs (popular vote) but games won in a series of games (electoral vote) that decides the victor. No wonder US politics is considered a sport....or entertainment.
No, it wouldn't. Trump's margin of victory is larger than the Michigan number of electoral votes...

Make a difference for what? AFAIK, no one has done an official certification yet, so there are still no official votes pledged to Trump, but there is no doubt that he secured a majority of the vote in enough states that he'll get the 270 he needs even if he does end up losing Michigan (which is very unlikely, there isn't going to be a recount there and it would be close to conspiracy to "uncover" another 13k votes for Clinton and none for Trump).
Each state awards its total number of electors to whoever received the plurality of the public vote for their state (except for Nebraska and Maine, who do a mixed FPTP/Proportional award for their electors). The state election board, or Secretary of State or whoever's office is ultimately in charge of the election apparatus in each state, will certify their final tallies over the next few weeks and select one of the campaign's panels of electors to represent that state for the Electoral College. No electoral votes have been awarded to Trump (nor will they be until December). No panel of electors has been officially chosen yet either, AFAIK. But there is no real doubt as to what either of those is going to finally be, nationally or in Michigan. I don't know what your news source is which claimed Michigan's electoral votes have been awarded to Trump. Knowing you, it probably didn't say anything of the sort and you're just spinning your own mental narrative like usual. If it did say that, then it either finally decided to call Michigan for Trump and you misunderstood or you need to find better news sources.

Then how is it that Electoral College votes are the deciding the winners....when their votes aren't officially registered until December?
Well, they ARE 16 votes. If Pennsylvania hadn't ended up going to Trump than Michigan would put him over the top if/when his current lead is certified as the final count. As it is, no, Michigan's votes are just going to pad Trump's margin of victory, wrt the electoral count.
Because that's how the system works, the electoral votes are what determines the winner, not the overall public count, as one of the measures set up to prevent the larger states from completely dominating and marginalizing the smaller ones. And because the system was set up in a pre-computer age where everything wasn't connected 24/7 (and because there needs to be time provided for recounts and other measures to ensure the results are accurate in close races) the system was created with a month-long margin of time between the general election and the official vote of the Electoral College. Some similar reasons are part of why there's more than a month between when the Electoral College votes and when the President-Elect is actually sworn in.

Because the thread title notwithstanding, no one really thinks the electors are going to vote other than how they're supposed to which means we know that Trump's total is going to be over 270 already. We don't actually need to wait until December to know who won the election.yeah
