1 in 10 Americans think HTML is an STD, study finds

I would have guessed a much higher percentage.

I also didn't know what SEO stood for, as I've never used the abbreviation for that. And with the number of people not knowing what mp3 or USB is, which, frankly, a lot of people use daily, including the names, I'm inclined to think that the online poll might not have been taken seriously by everybody And/or voucher sites are visited by the technically illiterate.

As a side note I still think we need a new acronym for Short Term Disability because the current term (STD) just looks weird on paper.

DBM? What's so weird about that term?

It's the name of a Unix database library, a WoW addon, a German mining museum and a unit denominating power ratio
When the stars threw down their spears
And watered heaven with their tears:
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?

lol, you're showing your age, Veldan. Nobody has a BM these days.

Funny anecdote -- my mom was a nurse in the "old days" when BM meant bowel movement. As a little kid, I thought it was Biem or Biam (depending on pronunciation), with emphasis on the B part. Be-em, Be-am. She also used the term "stool", which made things even more confusing. My parents also called dog feces "dirt", and cat feces "litter". They didn't use words like poop, crap, or shit....unless it pertained to birds or politicians.

The mousepad of my laptop; I know it's hardly a new thing but whenever I make a move over it that can be interpreted as a 'swipe' my laptop switches to the windows 8 interface which is real crap if you don't have a touchscreen. Which I don't.

I also hate how zoom seems to have a life of its own.

Lost track of the time and one of credit cards was cancelled for inactivity. The awesome Visa World with no credit limit It was my oldest account too. I'm down to 8 cards now.

Airfest and the city's first Trader Joes are opening on the same weekend. on the same street. I'd say something about not leaving the house tomorrow, but I have to work. At the closest library to the base.

8 credit cards ? I've never had more than 2.
    Congratulations America

I think I had a dozen before I was 23ish, then Bank of America started buying up everyone.

Kind of gamed the system. Applied for a bunch of small limit cards when I was 18 and thru college. These people love locking in college kids. Only used one at a time and did my best to pay it off monthly. By taking a hit on my credit at an early age when I was living off of scholarships I was able to set the ground work for a better credit rating now without doing much or worrying about it. My average age of credit history is just shy of 8 years. Bean counters bend over backwards when you walk in with a credit rating over 800. When my lease ends this year I should be golden to purchase my first house.

"Credit cards" includes consumer borrowing/revolving accounts issued by stores under bank names. I've also "lost credit" due to inactivity, at stores like Sears or Target, but also from airlines that issue "credit cards", with frequent flier miles, under bank titles. The whole thing is a scam, really.

Not everyone. I have two. I've never had more. Only got my second a couple years ago.

I'll second that. I've only ever owned debit cards and had no problems getting a very competitive interest rate when I purchased my house.

Its not just home buying. Landlords love it too, and I've never had a car loan with interest attached. When we got the Honda the salesman was laughing that I was underselling myself because my max budget was something they would aim for with people with scores a 100 points lower than mine (as much as that story can be trusted). Its helped with insurance as well, as much as i disagree with it being a factor.

I took some early hits to get a bigger break quicker. Its worked out for me. I'm not saying its the only way to go about things.

OG, you have some 'questionable' habits and expectations regarding debt and credit. I don't begrudge your ingenuity or savviness that way, but it messes with my groove that there are so many loopholes, ripe for the picking.

This really has been such a lovely day; first, just as I decide to take a shower the water company decides to cut our water supply. So I take a French bath (dutch expression for just applying deodorant) and go out. Totally unaware of the fact that the tap in the kitchen is not entirely shut and that coincidentally the drain in that same kitchen is shut by its very well working stopper. I come back about 5 hours later finding 3 cm of water on my kitchen floor. Now, in most houses the kitchen isn't on the top floor, but in our house in Istanbul it is. So, I go to have a look in the bedroom under the kitchen, and sure enough everything is soaking wet. The most pressing task is clearly the water in the kitchen. Which I first scoop into a big bucked and once that's no longer possible I start to mop up the rest. Next task is the bedroom, which I empty out. All clothes etc I consider laundy, even the clothes that got wet in the closet. Once this room is more or less dry, with the mattress and bed standing in a position so that the circulating wind (not very warm by the way) can dry them. It is only then that I think of going down one more floor where I find - oh happy day - my own bed totally soaked. Thank god the additional washing is limited to the sheets and top of the mattress. And the laptop standing right next to the bed was saved by the water absorbing qualities of my mattress.

The washing starts (without any mid-cycle interruptions) and as some things can simply not be put in the dryer, I hang them on the balcony. Somewhere halfway through the third load all of a sudden I realize that it's raining outside. So I have to rush everything that was on the lines on the balcony back inside again. And that with only 3 more loads to go
    Congratulations America

Ouch, Hazir, that's a bad day.

Yeah, that's a really bad day.

I hope your washing machine defaults won't make it even worse.
