An elderly friend of mine who has cancer beyond treatment and who was admitted to a hospice yesterday just posten a status update on facebook 'out on deep opiates'. I can't help but think that means it's over for him and that if somebody bothers the next message will be telling us of his passing away.
    Congratulations America

EJ, yellow tabbies like yours have a fond spot in my heart. They make really great family members, and somehow have distinct personalities apart from other cats, even other-colored tabby cats. It's always sad to say goodbye and bury our cats, especially our senior cats, who've been part of our human lives for so long, present and part of so many important events.

nothing serious, a lot of slow moving rain, with the slight possibility of small tornadoes. its going to raise the high tide a couple of feet, on top of high tide being high because of the full moon cycle.

flooding will happen as always. and people will flip their shit thanks to the news.

First named storm of the season. Emergency Operations has been activated and I've already been put on notice.

No offense intended, OG...but you do live in a well-known tropical thunderstorm and hurricane zone. Thanks to NOAA and weather satellites, you have advance notice, and can prepare well in advance.

Is anyone able to log into the Games for Windows Like Marketplace? All i'm getting is a "connection error: can't start program" error. Can't figure out how else to get to the games I've bought through Microsoft.

Yep I heard. Came a lot quicker than I'd understood it would.

Well, my friend Jon has passed away. I did manage to get him on the phone one last time last thursday but as it was near impossible to make out any longer what he was saying all I could do was tell him that he was in our thoughts and would always remain there. After a couple of days of no facebook updates and unanswered calls I figured out that I should visit his facebook page, where I found a posting by his pastor that he indeed had passed away.

Strange to imagine that not so long ago we were planning for him to move back to Istanbul to spend the remainder of his life in the city he loved so much and that he's dead now. Maybe even buried already.
    Congratulations America

'Participating' in a multi-family Yard Sale. The date was picked because a big auction of Classic Cars, antiques, and local collectibles is being held across the road. Rumor has it that some cable show will be filming an episode.

Not sure why those same folks would be interested in stuff from our attics, basements, garages, closets....but my neighbor insists the sheer volume in traffic/parking will attract "bargain hunters".

Been a long time since I held, or participated in a Yard/Garage Sale....and concluded it was a huge waste of time. Not sure why this time will be any different. But my neighbor works in marketing/advertising and is really good at persuasion.....

Sounds weird. Usually, such "autodestructs" are caused by hardware defects.

especially since windows 8 has so many built in options to revert to various states of use.

I can't be certain, but I doubt it. I downloaded Ubuntu installed that from a usb stick and it's working just fine as we speak. I dare say; lots better.

That's what I expected, but they turned out to be dead ends. The autodestruct came after my password was rejected in the middle of an attempt to do a refresh. Anyway, this machine will do just nicely under Ubuntu. I will take it to Istanbul, there it will have the added advantage that nobody who might use it there will be able to put anything on it that I don't want them to put on it

It can still take over three weeks for a few papers to get from an embassy in Bangladesh to the administrative court in Gothenburg. Sent by sea-horse? Makes me think of poetry... http://rihlajourney.wordpress.com/20...velled-slowly/

Asshats. This was supposed to have been sorted out in the first step without having to be appealed.

Political Food. But not in ways we usually debate/discuss surrounding hunger, or affordable nutrition, or politics.

The Paula Deen "scandal" has all the elements of a great thread: consumerism, marketing, racial discrimination, cultural bias, entertainment, multi-media, health/nutrition, pharmaceuticals, product endorsements, law suits, industry empires. All surrounding FOOD.

But I can't figure a way to make a new thread, with just the right title.

She is fine. It was a snatch and run. She screamed so loud the guy freaked and threw her iphone in the river cause he figured he was going to get caught. He was, and its on camera, and they caught him with someone else suspected in an earlier snatch and run.

Boss was so fucking high on adrenaline...it was sort of hilarious.
