For example, an introductory text into any topic would be rendered impossible by this - just imagine someone not knowing the term 'Schrödinger's Cat'. How would he ever come to know that it's actually called that? All he would see would be variations like "Sröscgidren'h" or "Öhgidssciden'r".

Not to mention that they also need to be short words. You certainly couldn't do that with, say, Finnish texts.

In the future, the Berlin wall will be a mile high, and made of steel. You too will be made to crawl, to lick children's blood from jackboots. There will be no creativity, only productivity. Instead of love there will be fear and distrust, instead of surrender there will be submission. Contact will be replaced with isolation, and joy with shame. Hope will cease to exist as a concept. The Earth will be covered with steel and concrete. There will be an electronic policeman in every head. Your children will be born in chains, live only to serve, and die in anguish and ignorance.

Yes but why is any of the above problematic?

Wait, aren't you the guy who isn't too keen on people going against vaccines and stuff?

So, why exactly is it so hard for you to understand that I as a teacher am not exactly keen on people making my job harder by proclaiming that "spelling doesn't matter"? (In addition to the fact that we really don't need people to believe anything just because it's "on the internet".)

But hey, since its that important, you should look into OPEC.

OPEC is the devil for sure. But seeing we have people who don't want the US to drill domestically, and our "green" energy isn't very efficient, we're kind of stuck until someone has the brains and balls to get us away from them. I do have to have gasoline to get places; I certainly don't need a greasy chicken sandwich. Especially when McDonald's makes a pretty decent knockoff of their chicken sandwich.

At Antoine, that was pretty good.

Well, she's pretty angry with me still. Bitched me out today and pretty much said if it wasn't for my daughter she'd completely cut me out. Not so much for what I said but that I disrespected her on Facebook in front of friends and family. Ouch.....

Lesson Learned. Never trust another soul with your innermost feelings and vulnerabilities. When they are angry with you, they use those weapons to stab you in the heart. I will never make that mistake again.

Sold a PS Vita on ebay for £155, and also sold a PSP for £38 at the same time.

Sent the parcels to the wrong people

Hopefully the guy who bought a Vita for £38 will send it back

    :/

Guessing this isn't concerning your mother and Facebook?

  13. #3283
Oh no, it does. I've lost my respect and trust in her completely. And that feels pretty shitty.

    Stupid so-called "Customer Services".

I got a letter out of the blue recently from a debt-collection agency but didn't say what it was for. Never got into debt problems, pay all my bills by Direct Debit so was really confused. Ultimately they said when I called (a pay per minute number of course) that it was for mobile company Orange. As it was a pay-per-minute call I simply explained that I don't have any contract with Orange (my phone is with O2) and they should send any further correspondence in writing.

So got another letter saying as I've still not paid this was a final letter before court action. For a staggering £39.34 - my mobile bill is over £45/month!

Called up Orange and eventually found out it was for a £5/month mobile broadband dongle that I'd cancelled late last year. As I don't have a phone with them I'd cancelled via writing to them (which is perfectly allowed under their terms), stopped using the device and cancelled the Direct Debit the following month. He was able to confirm all the details: My 12-month contract finished in August, the usage stopped early January and hadn't been used since, the Direct Debit was cancelled with a final payment end of January. But he insisted there was no letter so therefore I owed them the money.

I don't know what they did with the letter and as a matter of principle I refused to pay for their mistake, in the end he kept insisting that I needed to pay as they had no letter. I kept saying this is illogical you have all the evidence in front of you that it was cancelled. In the end I asked simply "are you calling me a liar" - I'm saying I posted the cancellation letter so unless you're calling me a liar, you've got the fact it was stopped getting used then, then the payments stopped after that. After 36 minutes on the phone he finally passed me to somebody else who simply said it was cancelled.

Some of you all may remember my story about one of my less awesome ex-girlfriends getting hit and dying in the hospital. Haven't thought much about her, or that part of life much. Until today, when I came across ICE's Jane Doe. The pictures they provide are perfect aged/drugged up composites of what my ex looked like or would have looked like with age. The case also includes 2 kids that fit the ages of the 2 kids she had. The child pornography charge they what to charge her with doesn't have a date of occurance.

Way to creepy to shake off.

Cat, if she's never acted like that before, and it's out-of-character for her....she should see her doctor to rule out any physical/mental health problem.

West half of my work building is dark, no power, emergency power took 10 minutes to turn on and only lasted for a bit. That part of the building controls our phone system, internet, intranet, and lock security.

People running around right now in full blown "we're fucked" mode.

Or just buy her a tasty chicken sandwich as an apology...

    why no power?

word of mouth is that the one floor the library doesn't control was getting a bunch of fail safes and backups installed. A bunch of news crews are planning to base operations out of that floor (RNC coverage). Somewhere along the line someone screwed something up, in a big way, which is why the emergency power also failed.

I actually did tell her that (because she told me my words made her want to die, which is a safety issue for my kid) and she blew up at me. Keep in mind she used my PPD against me in an earlier argument. We didn't talk for over a week. But now we're talking again. I still don't trust her, and I've told her we are not to have an internet relationship anymore. I'm not changing my mind about that.

I won't say it's out of character....when she's angry, she gets vindictive. Funny thing, she accuses me of the very same things she has been doing to me for 32 years. So, at this point I've made her think everything is okay-I've told her I'll treat her like everyone else (her complaint that I treat her different is dumb, because what she didn't realize is I wasn't fake around her. I wear a mask around most people. I'm tired of wearing a mask just to please others).

It's okay, GGT. I just got a good reminder that parents are never friends. They're parents. I'll leave my real self to my husband and my friends (and maybe my sister, since we share some common interests).

Okay, so one of my molars sometimes ached a bit when chewing food. Turns out that a bit of the filling for said molar had fallen out (not the whole filling, though) and needed replacement.

Since I remember that particular tooth being a bit over-sensitive, I asked for them to use painkillers before beginning to drill. They obliged, waited a bit for the stuff to kick in and... no dice. Drilling still hurts like a bitch.
Okay, they injected a bit more of the painkillers - nope, tooth is still sensitive.

We then decided to try again on another day in the hopes that the drugs will work better then. But WTF is this? Half my mouth and tongue is numb - and yet the nerves for this particular tooth don't seem to be affected at all!

    Gah.

Thats the map of the CCTVs that have been installed for the convention coming to town. Its a shit job to, they stick out horribly, and appear to be tied to the same power source that the street lights work on, all of which are marked inside very visible and easy to access ground covers.

This one was a toss up between this and the WTF thread.
Came into work today to see this email flagged as important:

Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandy Murman wants to welcome our law enforcement officers from around the state who are coming to Tampa and Hillsborough County, and to recognize our own City and County law enforcement officers who will be working the Republican National Convention (RNC) in the coming weeks.

This event will garner national and international attention from the media, the public, and a variety of other groups. Due to the secure nature of this event, the City of Tampa has requested support from multiple law enforcement and public safety agencies from the entire state of Florida. More than 5,500 public safety and law enforcement officers from a variety of agencies have committed to help us secure our area.

With all the planning and preparation for the RNC, the City of Tampa Police Department recently made the decision to provide a “Tampa Style” welcome bag for the visiting agencies. It is also an excellent opportunity to show our visitors that Tampa and is a great community and we want them to return.

“This is something we can do to say welcome to Hillsborough County and thanks to all of our officers for their hard work and help in providing security to protect our area,” said Murman.

Commissioner Murman has placed a “Thanks Bank” box in the Board of County Commissioners’ second-floor reception area to collect items for the welcome bags. We will accept whatever amount you can provide, but here is a suggested list:

    • Tampa centric items
    • Chap Stick
    • Energy bars
    • Energy drinks
    • Snacks
    • Sunscreen
    • Gum
    • Mugs
    • Cigars
    • T-shirts
    • Portfolios
    • Pens
    • Coupons/discounts to the law enforcement when they show their RNC credential at various local establishments, theme parks, museums, zoo, etc.

Commissioner Murman’s “Thanks Bank” box will remain available for “deposits” through Friday, August 17, 2012, at 3 p.m.

These 5,500 officers are getting both overtime and hazard pay. Every sheriff I've talked to thus far is bragging about this being an early bonus. Yet this commissioner sends out this email to the county employees, employees that have been under a pay freeze for just over 5 years, and asks them to donate whatever they can to help these people feel welcomed at Tampa. and it includes shit like cigars.
